How much do you pay for service?

I had the Gillig serviced today. 28 quarts oil, oil filter, fuel filter, water filter, air filter, chassis lube, inspected and adjusted brakes, spent half an hour cleaning the fuel screen/bowl upstream of the filter. Looked like the screen and bowl had never been cleaned.

He spent 3-1/2 hours and charged me for 3. The bill was $496. Is that reasonable? The only item I question is $125 for the air filter.

This is a DD series 40 in a low floor. It is some trouble to get under the thing for service. How does my bill compare with yours?

my air element is 90+ $$'s if i buy it. oil is 12-15$ a gallon.
the filters are 15-19$ each.
i do my own brakes and grease.
so oil and filters about $150-$200.
i change my own air filter, i would think they mark a filter up 15-20 %

If it has the Eco air system expect to pay 125 bucks for those filters

Sounds about right to me. I pay IIRC $129 for the Eco air filter, $10 to $15 for oil, fuel, trans filters. Oil at WalMart is around $50 a  pail, $80 if you want the feel good brand names. The only way to reduce that cost is to do it all yourself. With the added benefit of knowing it is done right. Or at least if it is screwed up, you can only blame yourself and do it over again.

If he does have the ECO filter JC it should be a little cheaper than your his 466 International engine doesn't require as much air as a good 6v92

I get mine serviced once a year at National Bus.  I know the main guys in the shop and they usually treat me nice.  I usually furnish my own filters, as the markup on their filters is substantial.  Cuts my filter cost in half.  In regards to your air filter, that's not too far from the norm for that filter.  You might save a few bucks by buying it online.  But in motorhome service, it may be a while before you need to replace it.  You probably have one of the little filter minder indicators on the suction side somewhere.  It will tell you when you need to change.

Do all the work myself that you had done and materials cost me 275.00, 8 gallons oil, 3 air filters, 2 fuel filters, 1 tranny filter, my own lubes 4 different kinds used which I get for free at estate sales and the price also included 2 thermostats (180 degrees) with gaskets and new gauge and 50 feet of wire which came with it. 4.5 hours by myself.

My airfilter runs around 150.00.  Oil is about 20 a gallon, add the other filters and 3 hours of labor with tax and shop fees and that sounds about right.

You need to get to know David at Davids coach. Better yetget to know Roxane his wife. She is a lot nicer than David.

He does all my service work on HUGGY. he does it for less than I can buy the parts. and I know it is done right.

By the way I have quite changing my oil every year I just pull a sample and have it tested. Oil does not wear out settin
and it does not seam to have any problems when tested.

Come on down to palmetto cove next week end. Look fordward to seeing every one there.

Thanks for the information, Uncle. Where do you have your oil tested?

I'd love to make Palmetto Cove, but I'm booked to play music on Ocracoke that weekend. I WILL make a PC event, but it won't be this one. Have a great time.
