Would one of these work as an inline priming pump for a 8V71?

4107 has electric pump and works great.  Our 5B has none.  Thinking this might be a simple way to go.  I suppose there would be more chance for an air leak than with an electric pump.

If you had a little elf back there with fast enough arms, you wouldn't even need a gear pump :)

That is the standard Detroit Diesel priming pump-- I have a couple of them.  What is nice about these is you can hook the pump to the secondary filter, and by having a manual oil pressure gauge on the pump you can pinch off the return line and make sure you have no leaks (esp. the jumper fuel lines) at 60 psi.  Let it sit for 5 minutes at 60psi and you know you are good to go.  You can't get that kind of pressure off an electric fuel pump.

Clifford, Is this the one you mean.  If so, it seems it would have a very short stroke and would take quite a bit of pumping.

They are not all that slow Lin a priming just creates a suction I cannot tell the difference between the Bosch and the Detroit,Cat Mack or Cummins primer pumps in strokes or time, I have both but use the electric pump you can call me lazy  :-X
