I need help locating the air dryer on my 1971 GMC 5305, does anyone know where it is located and if they ever need to be repaced or serviced.

On the MCI-9 it is between the front wheels, under the bus.

Not sure if this helps or not.

If you don't get a loud pop off sound when the correct air pressure is achieved you may not have one

Follow the main air line from the compressor. If you have one it will be the first thing (becides the muffler) before a tank.  If you get to the wet tank first, then you don't have one.  My 61 gm did not, I added it.

I don't know whether the city buses have a fuel tank that sits crosswise from side to side. On the 4905, the drier is installed on the driver's side space at end of fuel tank with the 145 gallon version. (165 gal tank uses up that space) There are already air line couplers overhead there to connect the drier into the system. Any bus that old probably would need drier replaced anyway as it is an obsolete model/version.

As previously stated, if you don't here an obvious air expel when the air gets up to pressure, you don't have an air dryer. Would suggest an Bendix AD-9. Been around for years and easy to work on. Good Luck, TomC
