Hey Guys  Does anyone here have a Mechanic's labor time guide for buses. Motor does not list it and I'm trying to get an estimate on hours required to do head gaskets and crank bearings on an 1985 Orion with a 6v92. PLEEAASSE!

7218,

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

A few things. First off, as a common courtesy a first name is always nice for newbies. It would also help to give use a general area of the country of where you are located, because there might be a better shop that one of us has experience with. Or, there could be someone else closeby that could help out.

The other thing is, I would be surprised if there was a standard guideline for repairing a 6v92 in an Orion. Maybe in an old open nosed truck, but I doubt it in an old bus. That being said, there are folks on here who could probably give you an idea of what is involved. What is the company quoting you now? What does it include? We need more info.

One more thing. If guy by the name luvrbus posts. Sit down and listen. He has forgotten more about buses, two strokes, engines, and things in general, then most of us know.

It strikes me that there isn't any such thing as a flat rate time guide on 30 year old buses...  I think the Orion is an off-shoot of the GM's and has a sideways engine.  That would put the rear cylinder head in a pretty hard to reach location, but you could do it in the bus I think.  A pro shop would probably pull the engine to change heads.  Orion is not a common bus for this forum, but maybe someone who has done GM's could comment?  I am not being very helpful...

And that is what I really don't care for. A noobie asks a question then disappears ::) :o ::). Everyone else does a pretty good job of replying to their own topics.

Ah, well. What can you say ???
