carrier heat pump

I posted this on the projects page by mistake. my carrier air V does not seem to be making heat now that the outside temps are in the teens. is this normal.worked great this fall  with moderate 50"s .

Others more knowledgeable will answer for sure but pretty sure yours is R-22 and non Inverter style compressor. so yes it probably not doing any good in Teens.  My old heat pump pretty well quit around 28F doing any good at all.   Do you have a Electric back up setting--sometimes labeled emer-heat?  some kick on automatic and some actually don't have them.   Bob

  Call carrier with the info. on your unit they can tell you.

I don't think they made a heat pump in the Carrier Air-V roof-top product line (assuming that is what you have).  It was a standard compressor air conditioner and an electric heat strip as an option.  The heat strip is pretty puny.

There is a recall for the heat strip option on some units.  I would be careful trying to use it until you know if the recall affects you.

Heat pumps usually have an outside ambient temp cut off.
Sounds as though ouside temp is below what yours is set for

Carrier did indeed make heat pumps for the roof. I have one. Don't expect much from any heat pump below the high 30's. The heat strip takes it from there.

I have three Coleman 13.5btu/hr with heat strips.  I found that if you close the vents to slow down the air, the heat strips work pretty well.  The big discomfort is that they take a few minutes to warm up, and in the mean time there is cold air swirling around.  With all three on, they really do work and can get the bus very stuffy hot.  Good Luck, TomC
