a busnut magazine?

Over at BNO, someone asked if Ian was going to start a magazine.
So, serious fellow that I am, I thought this was as good a time as any for some discussion.
What follows is posted on that thread over on BNO:

Would a magazine for the busnut hobbyist be a viable business opportunity?

This is as good a time as any for the community to discuss this.

How about some analysis?

Either post it here or fire it to my e-mail at buswarrior@busnut.com

Bus Conversion Magazine is not the only one in trouble.

A vast number of titles in the hobby magazine industry are already dead, never to return.

However, there are a good number that are healthy, vibrant and carry on.

Is the busnut/conversion hobby able to support its own magazine, and will it at this point?

This issue has already been discussed at some length in previous threads. My own opinion is that yes, a print magazine of great interest to bus converters is definitely a viable proposition. But probably not if it only covers bus converting topics - it needs to have broader coverage to generate sufficient readership and advertiser interest. I've previously suggested that other topics that could be covered might include, for example, other type of home-built motorhomes or general classic/vintage bus preservation (there are several successful magazines here dealing with just that subject).

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.

How about a shrink writing articles about a nudist colony in a bus conversion magazine that was the last straw for me lol that was broader

good luck

Hey big guy!  I thought she was cute.  Always hoped she'd roll into a campground where we were.  Preferably without her clothes on.

And I think its extremely bad form to discuss a potentially competitive magazine on a forum that is subsidized by BCM.

Its the last thing but its still on the list.

Bob, the thread over at BNO clearly indicates there is no competing journal planned.

And which regularly published journal is being competed with, if it was?  ::) good humour intended.

The generic topic is intended to be useful to the present and/or future owners of the existing hobby magazine, or to those who may step into the void.

And that is a discussion that is good for the hobby.
