Hi Folks, I'm fixing to remove my coach air conditioning unit, except the driver's air and defroster. I'm afraid I may remove too much, especially the wiring. My system is recently rebuilt, converted to 134 refrigerant, and I don't want to ruin the chances of selling it to a local charter or church, etc., but I want to retain anything that I will need or can use later for hooking up my inverter and new driver's unit. If anyone out there has done a surgical or at least competent removal, I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks

unless an after market unit, the driver a/c runs off of the same system as the cabin a/c. You cannot remove/dismantle one without rendering the other inoperable. you could probably however install an after market driver a/c setup, as some guys on here have. If you remove the cabin a/c with the intent of selling the parts, just be careful to dismantle everything at obvious locations and not just start cutting stuff out. Save as many hoses as you can, they are pretty spendy as well.

Thanks, Derrick. I'm aware that the two systems use one compressor/condenser, and the mechanical connections don't confuse me. What I'm worried about is the electrical stuff- I don't want to give away contactors or relays or such if I can use them later, and I ESPECIALLY don't want some live wires hanging around. It looks like about a dozen wires or so connected to the various switches at the driver control panel. I want to keep the driver's air circuit intact- I WILL install a compressor and condenser later for them. What I want to do is eliminate ten pounds of useless wires for the chassis air and hopefully use some of that circuitry later to connect house batteries, etc., to the inverter and generator. I have the wiring diagram, but I don't want to remove everything and reinstall some of it later.

about the best thing I could tell you concerning the wiring, is this: Get your self a service manual if you don't already have one. There are several other circuits ran through the a/c junction box besides just a/c stuff. You have 12v option wiring, turn signals, fuel guage, just to name a few. By looking over a wiring schematic you can see which wires can be disconnected and removed completely. I made the mistake of ripping out everything in the a/c compartment and ended up having to re-wire some things when I discovered several items no longer worked. I retained the heavy guage wiring and solenoids in the a/c junction box, and later used them for connecting a vanner and 12v house system to the 24v system for charging the house system while under way. There is quite a lot that can be removed and cleaned up, but you would be best served by consulting "da book"
