My decisions about re-feuling are totally predicated on how much hot fuel I want to go to my injectors, which use the fuel for both cooling and lubrication. My Eagle air ride seat would allow me to drive off into the sunset (or sunrise) without concern for the milage.
But I know that my Bus gets (in round numbers) 7 MPG so I use that as the yardstick to protect some of the more important componants of a very expensive engine. (146 Gals.)

What are the common tank size of most mid 80's buses?  This one says 179 gallons.

Bruiser -

I noticed in your signature that you've got an MCI, as well as a 179 gallon fuel supply.

That means you've got the aux tank in the front baggage bay.  It is interconnected to the main tank, so it fills/drains automatically.

Theoretically, with 150 gallons useable, at 5 mpg, you should be able to go 750 miles on a tank.

But sticking to the 500-mile fill-up guideline will definitely keep you out of trouble.

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

thanks for info.. which baggage bay? drivers side or passenger side?
reason i ask is I did not see an extra tank in there..

the previous owner did add a 50 gallon tank for the diesel generator to run off of..

but I did not see any other tanks.. is it obvious?

thanks

look inside your front storage bay. if you have the auxiliary fuel tank there will be a 'jog' in the bulkhead wall between the front and mid storage bays. inside that boxed out area is the aux fuel tank. there are lines under the floor and at the top of the bay that connect the aux tank to the main tank.

What Thomas says is correct an MCI with the aux tank (179 gallon capacity) will have a "box" on the back wall of the front bay and inside that box is the factory "aux" tank adding about 35 gallons extra capacity over the standard 144 gallon tank in an MC8-9, 96A, 102A and etc.

Now you say the previous owner added a 5o gallon tank. Hmmm. Did he really add a tank? If so where? Or did he take and modify the existing "aux" tank for the generator.

As said the lines for the aux tank run in channels above and below the luggage bay and should be checked to see that they are still hooked to the main tank.

the downfall is the bus is not at my house yet :( but soon.. so I will try to check the Aux tank as soon as I can.

but yes the other owner added a steel transfer 50 gallon tank in the 1st bay luggage area on passenger side. then he has fuel lines run to drivers side to generator..

which means I could be carrying 229 gallons of diesel fuel at one time :o  WOW that is a lot

Well yes & no. My older Setra's have a 246 gallon capacity and the newer ones hold 226.
But over the standard tanks of 100-160 gallons in many buses we do carry a lot of fuel.
