John, not sure what trailer dolly you are talking about.  The ones I have seen have two tires.  If you are talking about platforms mounted on the back of the bus with one tire (ala the now infamous thread on hauling motorcycles and even cars on the back of the bus), then I can't comment

However, if you take the Trailer Toad for example, it has two tires that should have plenty of capacity.  They look to be the same size as some tow dollies that you run you car up on.  If you take a 20K pound trailer, that would be between 1k and 2K load on the dolly.  That should not be a problem.

The potential problems that I have heard about on the various types of these units; are possible tire scrubbing and inability to handle very large vertical movement when the bus goes through something like a driveway dip.

Trailer Toad has been around for many years now.  I used to see a lot of them at the drag races.  I would think if there were any big issues, they have been designed out with new models that have evolved from the original design.

BTW, on the other board, Fast Fred commented on the possible use of something like the dolly that over-the-road LTL trucks use when they haul doubles and triples.  I tried to touch on that when I showed the German (European?) approach.  As bus folks, many of us are pretty handy at fabrication.  It would not be out of reason to build a special fifth wheel type trailer with a pivoting front axle.
