Hello to all.

I am new to this board but have had my MC-9 with an 8v71 for five years.  I have basically been full timing in it for four years.  I bought it in PA and wasnt really all that informed on what I should look for, but all in all I think I got pretty lucky as I have had very few problems with it and none that were what I would call seriouse.  Until now...maybe.

My homestead is in MI but I spend most of my time full timing in my bus in CA.  I have had a mechanic in Placentia working on it for about two years or so and I have always been happy with him.  Now, he is telling me that the rust on the underside of my bus is bad enough I should really start looking for a replacement and retire her.  OUCH!!

He is also telling me that I should find a unit with a Cummins or a series 60 or something along those lines as the older DD's will not be allowed in CA as of 2012.

Not really sure if I should run right out and buy a replacement and if I do not sure I really need to move up to the kind of engine he would prefer I get.  The cost of anything with a Cummins or series 60 appears to be WAY more than an 8v71 or 6v92 and I dont see how CA can keep me from driving one if it is registered in MI.

So, What say you experts????

Thanks,

So, they are going to stop you at the border and check your registration and engine and if you dont meet their arbitrary standards they are going to deny you entry into the state?

Somehow that kinda sounds pretty unamercian.  Especially for a State that has so many problems with Arizona's new law regarding illegal immagrants.

But thanks for the info guys.

I live in Calif. It is my understanding that the law only applies to commercial vehicles.

Luvrbus, I resemble that remark.  We're all crazy as loons.

If you need rebuilding in CA, try H-B Industries.  Bob advertises on this site and they are located east of San Diego just off the 8 freeway between El Cajon and Alpine.  In addition to general maintenance Bob rebuilds, repowers and refurbishes an amazing variety of busses.
