Bus Conversion North Carolina State Inspections??

Is there anyone in North Carolina that can tell me exactly what kind of state inspection you have for a bus conversion titled as a motorhome and the approx cost?? Is it the same DOT inspection for heavy trucks or is it a standard automotive inspection where all they do is a walk around and visually just check lights, horn, tires, wiper blades, etc??

I believe if your house car is 25 years old or older there is no state inspection.Other wise it is just like any car.  If it is new enough to have to have a computer inspection then just like the new cars.

Check the nc dot board to be sure.

I just know that "HUGGY" does not have to have a inspection sticker any more.

Surprisingly no one I ever ran into could answer that question for me at the time I thought my bus needed to be inspected. But since it's almost as old as Uncle Ned...it's exempt.

Call a revenue Bus Company like Young in Asheville. They should be able to answer your question.

Vehicle Safety Inspection

Vehicles 35 years old, or older, are exempt from the North Carolina vehicle safety inspection. The cost of a passed safety inspection is $13.60. The vehicle inspection can be performed at any of the 7,500 licensed inspection stations throughout the state. Most service stations, automobile dealerships and vehicle repair garages are licensed inspection stations.

In North Carolina they don't issue inspection sticker any more.  You have to get your vehicle inspected with in either 60 or 90 days before license plate renewal.  You can buy new plates until you had paid property taxes on the vehicle and inspection.  The catch for us with large motorhomes, the inspection station has to be able get you inside their building. But all we have to have is the safety inspection lights, horn, tires, brakes, wipers and steering tightness.

I have had mine inspected as a car every year in North Carolina for the last 11 years. I just renewed my tag and this was the first year it should have stopped me from ordering online before I had the inspection. It did not stop me for the Eagle but it did for my cars, go figure. I assume by that I do not need an inspection however, I will still get it inspected just for my own warm and fuzzy. I do know that the large motorhomes here just have the auto inspection.
