How are you all doing.
I have a few questions on insulation for sound in the engine conpartment.
I am looking for a materal to line some of the engine conpartment something that could be put between two pieces of expanded metal, also for the side walls.
Any and all ideas will get greatly appriciated!!!!!!!!!

Thanks 102

I like the aluminum backed foam board.:it resist dirt and is easy to spray off..also on inside I insulate floor then carpet pad then carpet..extra carpet pad feels so good...Bob

Just remember most foam board is flammable.

I used uncoated dense fiberglass sound absorbing mat exactly this way and it works very well, and is not flammable. it's cheap too!
Get it from McMaster amongst others...

1/16 " sheet lead is the best sound insulator.  Sheet rubber at 1/2 is also very effective.  Both applied to the inside.  Both comparetivly cheap and easy.

Boogie has never been wrong to my knowledge.  Go his way in the compartment if you can afford it..  Weight/mass stops sound and fluff and stuff stops heat.  You want both, actually.

It aint only flamable is burns with a speed like nothing else.  I burned some scrap pieces from one of my rent houses and I was shocked at how fast it caught on and burned.  It was like it had gasoline poured on it.

It isn't all the same. Some actually isn't a phyrotechnics dream.  Get the good stuff.  The fire aspect may be the least of you worries as much of it is out gassing lethal stuff when it is "burnt".

Thanks for the input. I think I will check into the McMaster products. I am just wanting to absorb engine sound. By doing that should help inside also. I like the carpet w/thick pad idea also.
