OK, so this is totally impractical, just an idea for the tinkerers and gadgeteers out there who cannot get enough bells and whistles on the dash.

So, how about if someone designed a computer circuit that would compare engine RPM's and drive shaft RPM's that would light a lamp on the dash when it is the perfect time to drop into a particular gear?  Might be a fun project for someone with nothing to do. :)

Then again, one might spend a couple hours and just install that new fangled invention... tach -o- meter, I think it's called  :) ;) :D

I know they make tach's with shift indicators for cars, but what about buses?

Len,

One more thing to go wrong.

I think you can develop a sense of the right time by listening to the engine, works for me.

Come on now, I know all those things, even got pretty good at the old 4104 without a tach or speedometer.

It's just that playing around with things like that can be fun.  Since I no longer have the 4104, I'm out.  Who doesn't want a few more flashing lights on the dash???

I was reading something about computerized rev matching used in performance cars, thought it might be interesting.

It's pretty easy for us since we upshift against the governor, but downshifting at various speeds sometime results in grinding another pound.
