Inverter/chargers, batteries, and subzero weather

My inverter/charger doesn't like subzero weather.  It loses communication with the remote panel and shuts down until I reset it.

Would I be better off just leaving the inverter/charger off over the winter?  Does it hurt the batteries to charge them when the temps are near zero?  The batteries are AGM so they can hold a charge much longer than flooded batteries.

This is a Prosine 3.0 inverter if it matters.  I haven't checked the manual, but I assume the temps are outside the normal operating range.

AGM batteries only I personally would feel comfortable leaving over the winter.  They do a great job of maintaining charge in those conditions.

I've had the same problem with my Xantrex RS3000 during winter. In 05/06, I was parked outdoors, on a hilltop at 7000', in Colorado.

When I heard the inverter alarm sounding, I looked at the battery temp and it read -25*.

I did manage to get it going again with a reboot, but it happened several more times that particular night.
