Quick oil question

OK so i was doing an oil change on the bus and i added 2 gallons of straight 40w. My dad stops me after that and says that he has 2 big 55 gal drums of straight 30w. Can i mix the last 4 1/2 gallons with straight 30w?

Oil is oil, and mixing them usually is not a problem. Keep in mind that the higher viscosity rating is the one to consider when determining how cold weather will impact the lubricating value, because lower is thinner. In cold weather, that will make a difference, but I cannot see anything to worry about in your situation.

Ok thats what i was thinking. And it does not get very cold here, mabe low 30s. Thanks

More important - is it rated CF-2 ??

I would advise against running 30 where you live.  It doesn't get cold enough to need it; Detroit recommends changing to 40 as soon as possible after ambient temperatures are high enough.  All this assuming you have a two-stroke, of course.

If you do go with the 30, make sure it meets the rest of the specs.  Must be CF-2 rated with less than 1% ash.
