KTV linings are non metallic ( no copper)a soft lining school buses use that type lining too. I installed new pads on my Lexus made by Nairobi the same type material.
The B500 should not down shift to 4th gear without the Jakes switch turn on. You have a commutations problem could be a bad harness, a bent pin something simple or a bad ECM.A DD-Allision dealer has the equipment to check that for you. If you want to keep fighting it I have both the application manuals for the B500 and the series 60,I will let you use, they are rare and hard to find I would want those back, I have nothing on the MCI chassis modules. Testing the system has to be broken down in 2 parts, the OEM reasonability stops at the ECMs , the manufactures reasonability goes from there. That bus should have the ABS system the Jakes could be programed to work with the ABS system from MCI if it was down shifting by applying the brakes

Ok, as I mentioned in another thread regarding my Jakes, we attempted to wire them direct which didn't work. In the meantime, we drove the bus to the beach last weekend, and now the transmission no longer automatically downshifts to 4th gear at foot braking like it used to. To top it off, I ended up having to come to a complete stop on the westerly downhill side of White Pass (6 percent grade). Now my new brake shoes are glazed, they squeal really loud and they stunk too.

In researching the brake lining material, apparently there is a material that transit authorities use called "KVT" because (as they say) they are less prone to glazing and would work well on mountain grades. Typically, when descending a grade, I use short, stiff brake applications, but since I was forced to come to a stop, I had no choice but to do just that. Now my 500 mile shoes are messed up.

I know there are a lot of subjects here, but they are kind of intertwined. Has anyone ever heard of KVT shoe material and any suggestions on the automatic downshifting would be much appreciated.

I'd cancel the trip but it's our tenth year since we bought the property up there and this summer I plan to finish the little place we built up there so we can fly  going forward. Will be running our 4104 pulling a trailer load - OUCH!

WTI oil open today at $102.00 a barrel we won't have a break in May or June ,the Hydrogen people better get going. My stand is not political, but the US needs to get of the global oil market so the flare ups in the world don't affect our prices at home, it works in the middle east where people pay $.15 a gal for fuel

Quote from: dtcerrato on April 27, 2026, 11:44:41 AMI guess we can all assume that major earthly events like the choking of the strait of Hormuz & other strategic middle east waterway transportation routes lead to more priority on alternate fuel sources whatever they may be.

Hydrogen Infrastructure Expansion: Hydrovia™ Energy to Roll Out 500+ Stations and Launch H₂Ai
Hydrogen Infrastructure Expansion: Hydrovia™ Energy to Roll Out 500+ Stations and Launch H₂Ai
April 26, 2026 0 By Angela Linders

Just the other week, Hydrovia™ Energy in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, rolled out a two-pronged plan to tackle two of hydrogen's biggest hurdles in the U.S.: finding refueling spots for fleets and closing the knowledge gap. They've mapped out over 500 hydrogen stations along three major east-west corridors, and at the same time launched H₂Ai, a round-the-clock, AI-powered hydrogen intelligence tool from LaunchField℠ Digital. Together, these moves are all about boosting heavy-duty operators' confidence and fast-tracking hydrogen infrastructure growth.

Network scale: Over 500 stations draping three key freight corridors coast-to-coast
Digital support: H₂Ai taps into more than 36 expert frameworks
Target audience: Class 8 haulers and big commercial fleets
Production hubs: Modular units popping up next to stations for on-site hydrogen storage
Public roadmap: An interactive deployment timeline you can explore online
Platform access: Dive into H₂Ai live at www.hydroviaenergy.com/h2ai
Bridging the Fuel Gap for Heavy-Duty Fleets
Range anxiety has been the Achilles' heel for fuel cell technology–powered rigs, thanks to spotty refueling along long stretches. By zeroing in on three major east-west arteries, Hydrovia™ Energy aims to stitch together a seamless chain of hydrogen infrastructure that mirrors today's diesel networks...

I was speaking with a guy at Stewart and Stevenson Friday about a another problem, he was telling me two large South Korean construction equipment manufactures Hunyadi and Devlon are introducing Hydrogen for off road equipment. The owner of Stewart and Stevenson Kirby which is a large barge transportation co on the Mississippi other rivers and costal water ways are developing tugboats using Hydrogen for power, I can see Kirby just adding another barge for fuel since they transport Hydrogen already with their barges, Hydrogen is coming Cat train engines have been using it for years, I see those at the BNSF yard in Needles Ca
