What an adventure! Mostly just because of where it was. Then the hours of searching for a mystery code to find it was only a loose ground wire! So we finally got on the road and now the bus is tucked away at Don't shop waiting for us to start on it. Don and I both needed sleep though so we'll start another day.
Here are some pictures of the bus making it's way to it's new home.
This is where we started 400 miles from home on twisty curvy narrow Highway 1.

Finally on the road. Don is driving of course.

Beautiful ocean views. For me anyway. Don is driving the bus.

I loved this shot. Narrow cutback and Don is down below me with the ocean behind.

Great news Dale,
Very nice pics of the bird on it's way to it's new home.
I have driven that road a few times and it's a view to behold.
Nice to hear you made it home safe and sound.
Paul
Rest stop. Don is still driving. My turn is yet to come.

6V92 Detroit. Don says it has all the goods on it, just needs some fine tuning.

Pantograph doors and Alcoas. I was dreading building these doors. Now I don't have to.

Quartzsite is only a few months away! We have to hurry!
OK folks, do we really want someone this CRAZY creating our Eagle International website ;D ;D ;D ;D?
Dale, we are so glad that you guys stuck with it and got it home!!!
Now you can rest a couple of days and recover from the nightmares you will be have wondering: what if? ;)
You are now really an Eagle Bus nut since you have at least two of them!!
GREAT PICTURES!!!!
Jim
These have to be among the best pictures I've seen on this site yet - WOW! And Congrats! ;D ;D ;D
At the rest stops did you tell people "you sure got to watch where you park" or "they don't make them like they used to" or "fuel costs are sure getting high ... about 12 windows and a door" or "the heater works great" or "I bought it from a nudist camp" or (fill in your own)
The best pictures would have been the faces of the people as we went by. It ranged from incredulous stares to thumbs up in passing cars. It was a fun trip but I think I prefer buses with sides and roofs!
Dale,
Cool pics & yes it would have been cool to get pics of the responses!
Now a great line to tell folks would have been. "Well ya know when it say's for sale AS IS, WHERE IS? It's a good idea to find out what is meant by AS IS! " LOL!
Anyway I love it those are pictures and memories that will last a lifetime!
Reminds me of when I was trucking and put a live X-mas tree with lights, ornaments, and wrapped presents below it on my catwalk between the sleeper and trailer! Cars would fly by, then the brakes would come on and they would slow back down to the middle of the truck and ride there for a minute or 2!
It was really cool watching as a car would fly by and little heads would pop up in the back seat as the car slowed down for a look as mommy or/& daddy were telling them "look kids there is Santa's truck!" (or something like that! I'm sure!)
;D BK ;D
Dale, let me know what Don does to make the 92 run. Mine needs a little more. Glad you made it ok, keep the selector pad dry, I just put a ziploc over mine and pushed it back in the hole.
Hey Dale
now I feel better about mine. I drove mine home without the upper panels as I raised the roof on mine just before I had to move it to my house. I did at least have a door. LOL. good luck with the new toy.
steve
The only thing that bus needs is a Non-NJT front and rear bumper assembly. All NJTs have those butt-ugly rubber bumpers.
I got em. Like to lose them. But they are functional.
Your 6V92TA DDEC II has the capability to be turned up by a DD shop. Upwards to 350 HP. Some truck dealers won't do this, but marine operators may.
If just drove it 400 miles, without issues, and leaks, you might have a good engine....most of the NJTs were disposed of in decent running condition. You'll probably find excellent brakes, and the fact that the bus was pretty well serviced. Most have 600 to 800 K chassis miles total...and 100 to 200 miles on the engines since major out of frame rebuild. They were not typically used 24/7.
Lots of potential there!
What color is your engine? NJT color codes their engines.
Enjoy! JR
BTW, Dale, you are now a member in good standing of the NJT group.

Great view that will soon be covered by a cap.
Dale -If you like that view, why don't you incorporate a window into that new cap? Now would be the time to do it, that's for sure. . .
IIRC, it was an option on the later Eagles with the similar front end.
Maybe make it a sunroof/escape hatch??
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
PS: Great adventure!! Where in N CA did you find it - up near Ft. Bragg?
Wow! I have not seen an eagle this close to looking like the original NJT AE20 in a very long time. I think I will love to stretch it to 45', and maybe widen it to 102". Very, very good job Dale and the pictures are just priceless.
Dale, why did you take the front cap off it looked good with the cap on good luck
Thanks for the nice comments and the tips! I can't wait to get started. Unfortunately Don and I are back on the road this morning, heading down to Newport Beach to check out a charter yacht with three 12V71s that need rebuilding with Don's emission parts. I won't know anything about the engines but I am looking forward to seeing the yacht!
The engine in the bus is silver. Clifford had told me that it would probably be red or blue or something. The previous owner said that it was supposed to have been redone just 80k ago but it is still silver.
I was telling Don on the way home that I think the 96 inch width is going to be just fine for me. My RTS was a 102 but of course it had curved walls so I figure the 102 was the widest part at the bottom. My wife has been very understanding of this bus thing so far. This is my 3rd bus and the most I have ever done to one was take the seats out and then sell it. She says she wants this one completed so we can use it! Yes dear...
Clifford, the front cap did look good on there, didn't it? As we talked about on the phone, we thought about just throwing some temporary rivets in it for the drive home. We were already a day behind schedule because of that crazy ground wire, plus the rain stopped so we just threw it inside and hit the road.
We do have a leaky front seal that we are going to have to replace. Other than that and some minor adjustments, I doubt we will do much to the engine till after Quartzsite. At that point I have to decide if I am going to keep the 6V92/748 or have Don throw an 8V71 in it for me. And if anyone has a B500 or HT4060 laying around, I'll be glad to come get it out of your way! haha
I dare someone to try that with a GM.

Larry,
Don and I wanted to thank you for the phone time while we were trying to figure out the trans problem. I was really starting to get discouraged! Who would have ever thought ground wire? Just goes to show you how important the little stuff is.
Clifford and Art Wales were also invaluable with phone time.. So thanks again. I don't think Art is a member of this forum though. He has a very nice Eagle though and a very comprehensive build site that everyone should check out - http://www.webcove.com/eagle/
Dale,
What an exciting time you are having! The creative and dreaming process is almost a good as the execution. Welcome to he NJT Eagle 20 club. Mine was number 5560. - Greg
