Title: My Auction Purchase
Post by: Paso One on September 29, 2008, 06:54:31 AM
Well I finnally got around to starting the 6V71.

Last week I told you about checking the fuel level and when I opened the fill lid the fuel poured out all over my shoes. ( I can afford new shoes now instead of buying fuel )

I took  one interstate deep cycle boat battery with the spin on lugs.

Hooked up the battery hit the start from the rear compartment and away she went.

I couldn't believe it there was absolutly no smoke out the exhaust stack when cold and after running 10 minites no drain tube puddles.

I feel my existing motor is in reasonable shape but I would get both of the above normally in the same time.

Looks like the deal I got is truly a good deal  $755.00 less a tank of fuel = not very much for a healthy power train.

Thanks Kyle  you never know when you buy at auction what you end up with.

Ray I'll do exactly that throw the bus away..... after I take the fuel............  motor, tranny, air throttle, tires & wheels, power steering box, electrical goodies, air dryer, air bags, tilt steering column (maybe just the steering wheel ) a few body panels.

Then I'll need more storage  darn what have I done........

Leave the wheels on the bus or put on some sure-pops and have a mobile storage shed! LOL! ;D  BK  ;D

Just be sure it is properly tagged  . . . . .

"TAG APPLIED FOR" seems to be popular around here.  ;D

If you leave it where it is still driveable, it will be lots easier to get it to the scrap yard. Towing is pricey.  :(
(once there, you can remove the wheel & lights & other small things that may be needed as spares.  ;D
