Title: Darn trailer causing more problems than the bus!
Post by: belfert on September 24, 2008, 08:39:53 PM
I'm currently with the bus in Salt Lake City at a Super Walmart.  We had to buy a new wheel for a small utility trailer we are towing.

This darn trailer has caused us two breakdowns today!  This morning I noticed a loose strap on the camera monitor and stopped to fix it.  I noticed the tires looked awful low.  They needed pressure, but when I filled one the valve stuck open.  I got it to stop leaking and we stopped at Walmart for a new valve stem insert.

This evening the driver noticed smoke coming from the trailer.  We had to stop on the shoulder to check things out.  A piece of firewood had wedged between the tire and the side of the trailer.  The tire was damaged so we let it cool and went to the nearest Walmart with tires and found a new one.

We hopefully won't have more problems this trip.

Sorry.....Hopefully, it much smoother travel from here on.

Enjoy your series 60 DD power and B-500.

Brian,

You're in my town. If you need any help let me know or if you just have a minute to meet before you head out.
I'll send my phone number via pm.

We're fine now and in Wells, NV for a driver change.  It only took five minutes at Walmart to change the trailer tire.  A spare for the trailer was something else we forgot.  (One of the guys normally brings a spare tire for the trailer.)

We tend to expect to have problems with the bus and don't expect trailer problems.

Of course, there seems to be a Walmart every damn block except when you need one!  We had to detour 10 miles out of our way to get to one.

I agree, I REALLY hate that stretch between Wendover and Reno (thank God for Sirius radio!).
Lot's of accidents along the stretch too.
We do the drive usually a couple times a year and it's always desolate and ugly but I like coming out into Reno and Ca.
