It reached 99 deg. today, about 3:00 pm the bus overheated climbing a 7 mi hill on the P.A. T P. Broke out the hose and cooled down in 25 min.
8:00pm, we noticed smoke from the back, pulled over to inspect and saw the Grand Cherokee leaning. The front tire was GONE and the rim was distroyed!
Called Good Sam, on hold 35 min. Then tried AAA, 3min on phone and service truck arrived in 25 min. Installed the spare and back on the road by 10:00 pm.
Oh by the way, the tire distroyed thr front fender. [ It looks terrible ]
Ok, 3:00am, now stopped to snooze a couple hours, only 1 hr to StarJet.
Talk to ya in the morning!
Nick-
glad to hear you got there. sorry to hear about the jeep. I know that big old hill on the turnpike...I once overheated a 9 on that hill and the shutdown system shut it down in the tunnel...what a joy that was! with the temp yesterday, nothing surprises me.
I am sure the end result will be worth it.
shawn
Nick, sorry to here of your troubles. Maybe your engine could use some of your expertise on keeping it cool (misters?). I don't know if you have a rear camera, but sometimes that could help, but of course not stop the blow out. Hope the rest of the trip goes well! Good Luck, TomC
Would tire pressure monitors help?
Ok,
Just dropped off the bus to Dick and Dee Cahill at StarJet. What nice Poeple! Dick left me feeling real good about leaving my baby there!
Now Bruce Knee and I are searching for a spare tire.
Nick-
Dick Cahill posing for the camra...
Hey Nick - thanks for the updates - I feel like we're there with ya! Hey - the bus is getting crowded now!
MOOOOOOOOOO
Sorry about the tire blowout on the jeep - doesn't sound good. I also had wondered about the remote tire pressure sensors. And - we also don't have a rear camera, which may have spotted the smoke earlier as well.
Hang in there buddy! It's going to be worth it!!!
Kind Regards, Phil
hi nick
I know what it's like to loose a tire on the jeep. it happen to me last year in the black hills, i guess i was lucky a truck driver behind me called on the c b and told me that i had a blowout on the jeep left front tire, they were new tires but still had a blowout. it took out the inner fender well which was plastic, also the mud flap, and running board. and messed up the paint on the fender pretty bad, the steel belts in the tire got it. i could not pull over fast enough to avoid any damage i even had the rear camera on and still did not see it. there was no smoke. but a fine young man stopped and changed the tire for me. he was from ohio.when i was younger i would stop and help others, so i guess now it's my turn to get help along the way.

Nick, Sorry to hear about the troubles if ya need help locating a wheel & tire call me or just go to www.car-part.com and go thru the steps to what ya want it's easy ! BK 8)
Sure hope Dick does a better job for you than he did on my coach. He really is good when he wants to but when I went to pick up my coach you could see the primer through the paint. I was really ticked when I had to leave it for another week. He had already had it for a month and I had to make two eight hour trips. Hope you are close enough to pop in every once in awhile unexpected to check on your coach.
Nick if yer still at Star Jet ask if he still has the HT748 trans for sale and what he'll take for it? Thanks BK 731-885-7460
Hello guy's,
We found a spare near StarJet and entered I-70 east to come home. We than noticed a rumble noise in the front end and pulling to the left.
found a Jeep dealer at the next exit. they informed us the spare we installed was 5" smaller in diameter the the other 3 and caused the full time 4X4 to wind up!
We purchaced a new tire and front end allinement and we were on our way. Thanks Mc Hugh Jeep in Zanesville, O.H..
Yes Guy's, we have a camra system with night vision. But didn't notice the blowout.
Now on P.A. T.P. near Pittsburg headed east.......
Nick-
Nick,
Good news to hear you are on your way home safely.
Ya ever wonder if maybe that bus didn't like the idea of being left? ;D
Cliff
Cliff, Your Right!
I'm now back in Jersey, 12:45am. Time to get back to work and my family.
Wow, Two day's felt like a week! I hate only having 3 hrs. of sleep.
In 2 weeks, I'll do it again!
Nick-
Oh,
Greg Roberts, I saw your Eagle on the wall at StarJet. KOOL.....

Nick-
Very KOOL indeed! Dick does a good job especially when given artistic license. The Starjet paint job makes a huge difference in how the coach shape looks. My coach now looks taller from the front and longer than with the previous paint. Now if I can just get Dick to remember to send me the gold script "Private Coach" stickers so folks will stop driving beside me and rubber-necking and stop knocking on my door to see who is on board.
Greg,
It sure make's me feel good knowing that how nice your coach looks, That I can mabe expect the same Quality!
I'm also glad your coach is a part of our Bus Pictures!
Nick-
Here's the sad pictures of the Jeep. I guss it could have been worse!
Nick-
Ouch! I don't think valuim will help that bash! LOL! ;D BK
Hey Nick!
Reminds me of an occurance about 20 years ago.
I was working as a mechanic at a shop in Moscow, Idaho when this big motor home pulled in, This thing was the top of the line for 1987 with Doodads on the roof, awnings, diesel pusher, Allison, etc.
For a toad he was pulling an '85 Ford Escort with a stick shift.
When he walked in, he told us that the car ran fine when he hooked it up in Arizona, but whenhe tried to start it in Idaho, all it would do is go: ZZZZzzzziiiiinnnnnnggggg and the engine wouldn't turn over.
I got the joy of looking at it figuring the starter bendix was out, but when I tried to start it, I noticed that the gear shift was in first gear.
This didn't look good.
I had one of the other mechanics turn it over and sure enough there was no movement of the crank pulley, but the starter was turning and engaging.
I looked under the car and where the oil pan had been was just a bunch of holes with metal around it. No crank shaft, no rods, no bearings, no oil pump, nothin'!
The guy had pulled the poor little car from Arzona to North Idaho in first gear at speeds over 70 mph!
He said he never even noticed any drag from the toad.
The guy ended up buying a new long block, transmission, clutch, pressure plate, etc.
I still think of the guys face when I showed him the underneath of his car.
And Cackle!
Dallas
I have to aggree. Keep your eye on Starjer. The job they did on our coach had to be completely removed and replaced by others. The paint was so thin you could see through it and in certain light, you could see the spray strokes. Yes, I have seen some dynomite jobs come out of starjet. I guess its the moon or something.
Alan
Welcome aboard, Alan. have not seen your name for awhile.

Nick,
I had a different (lucky) experience some years ago. I was towing a Suzuki Samuri behind my 4104. When I arrived home from a trip, I found the right rear tire tread was completely gone but both the inside and outside sidewalls were still there.
The little car was so light that it rode for miles on just the sidewalls. Didn't break the bead or hurt the wheel or anything else.
It was a pretty incredible site.
Len
Busted Knuckle,
Thanks for the Linkl, I found a fender for the Jeep at a yard real close to me.
And it's white too!
Nick-
Nick, So glad to hear you are safe.
This is a great example of the damage a tire can cause, (even with constant inspections) & why they should not be taken for granted.
Is your rear vision camera color? I know it is hard for me to see things in black & white and I was curious if color would make a difference.
Thanks & good luck!

Kyle, I know on our Heavy Duty Wreckers the color cameras make a daylight to dark difference! I have a hard time seeing anything up close or judging distance with the black & white. But the color units make thinks easy too see and ultimately make me look so good when I can back up perfectly to the disable unit, unfold and lower the under reach and back it precisely where I need it under the front bumper all before ever getting out of the truck the first time then on the way back stop at the tool box grap the correct set of forks, take to the back slip them in the holder and use the remote to pick up the front end of the unit all in under 2-3 minutes! Then comes the time concuming parts of pulling drivelines or removing axles, chaining down the front axle, securining safety chains and running air and light bars! But with B & W I have to get out unfold the undereach lower it, guesstimate how much farther I need to back up, get back in the truck, back up and hopefully get it right the first time! With the B & W's it's almost as bad as not having one at all from our experiences of course the B & W's are old units and there have been many new advancements since they were new but in my personal opinion color is the best thing that happened to them!

Cool glad I could help! I use 'm all the time and yes we try to get the same color when replacing body parts too! I've as lucky a couple times to change a fender or door and have the pinstripe match up and nobdy ever knew it been changed! Now if we could just find a red Dodge P/U fender with custom canary yellow airbrushed pinstripes we'd be in great shape! LOL! Oh yeah when ya talk to Star Jet again ask if he still has the HT748 for sale? Thanks BK ;D
Kyle,
Yes It's Color, and much better detail with it. At night time it switches to black and white [night vision] unfortunataly, this
is when the tire blew!
Thanks-

Nick,
What colors and paint scheme are you going to use on your bus?
Hi Greg,
I wish I was able to scan the scetches Dick drew up, but my scanner is trash.
We are having a white base, the mask will be metalic charcoal, and black and silver graphics and wrap, Full body.
Hard to discribe but, awsome I think!
Nick-
I have NEVER seen a bad Star Jet paint job................Dick & Dee are also thoughtful, very nice people. One of the best in the country in my opinion.

Jeff,
I sure will. I'm due to head back to StarJet July 5th.
This is 6/19/06 when we dropped it off..
Nick-
Nick, I had Dick & Dee paint my 102A3, its on their website. Its gold base, with stripes. They are nice people and you should be satisfied with their work. I was impressed with their work ethic, I think they'll work 7 days a week to accomodate customers.
Mark
Thanks Mark, Your bus looks Great!
I'm waiting for Dee Cahill to send me progress Pictures to post for all you guy's.
This is the longest two weeks ever!
Here are some pictures from StarJet
Ready for Primer today.
Ok, The Jeep is now fixed. Not bad for a $125 fender thats almost the same color!

Jimmy
Dick Cahill, Laying Out stripes on my baby!
Wednesday
cool, is that silver the base color? im sure its gonna look real nice once its all buffed out
Hi coachcrazy,
Silver is the color of one of the stripes, the other being black. the base will be white, and the mask, charcoal. Base Coat/Clear Coat Urathane.
Dick starts with the strips first, than works back from there. It's kinda kool how he does that.
Nick-
Is there a gambiling pool that we can enter as for the exact hour or day Nicks coach is ready for pick up?
And the winner gets free use of the coach for 30 days as the main prize. I feel certain Nick would not object to that.

Hey Nick, If you won't let your baby be used, how about a free A/C check at the winners convenience, as long as it's at Bruces Rally?
Also, On another note, Al Roker of "The Today Show" fame, mentioned Cape May in his forecast today. I thought that was pretty cool!
I actually know some one, who is on the internet, that lives in the area, that was mentioned by someone, who is a national figure, that may actually know where Cape May is! Wow!
Dallas
Ok Dallas, You Twisted my arm......
Free A/C check up it is. LOL
I know someone that know's someone's friend who knows where you live too!

Hey Nick, I was just tryin' to help!
Usually first prize includes a free A/C check and some new tires. 2nd prize would be the A/C check and 3rd prize would be a dinner gift certificate or somthing like that.
edit: unless we get to use the coach for 30 days of course
edit by DML: 30 days is 3rd prize. 60 days is 2nd prize. 90 days and all fuel expenses for first prize.
Richard
DML, It was very generous of Dallas to offer the tires, A/C check and the gift certificate. Maybe we shouldn't push it.
Actually, Dallas...Capy May was grafted onto NJ after a big storms some years ago. It was really a part of DE that blew across the Bay after a big storm. That only value of the place is the Coast Guard Training facility. ::)
Oh, Oh, Now I've really pissed Nick off! :P
Bob
Ok Guy's, Do ya think ya can afford to fill er up after the 8v92 pushes ya down the road a while?

Nick,
Looks really nice.
Your going to have to post guards on each side when you use the ferry to keep people from getting to close now ;D
Cliff
Looking at your pictures again I have to say that your coach is probably the best looking MCI I have ever seen and maybe even the best looking and cleanest modern looking coach period. I like your design and scheme even better than the coach that inspired you. It is just hard to bet black and white in my book and your coach will be ageless over the next years!
Thanks Greg and Cliff,
Greg, we will have to try and get together in the future. Let me know what kinda trips you have planned in the future.
This fall is still up in the air but, we are still planning. Most likely Arcadia at the end of Dec. for sure!
I have to show my wife your coach up close, she likes Eagles and we also admire your paint job.
Nick-
