Title: fresh water tank
Post by: lloyd on September 22, 2008, 08:18:18 AM
Sometime over this summer we must have got some questionable water in our tank. My wife said it smells musty? Do you guys have any tricks to restoring the FRESH water system back to being FRESH? She is thinking about pouring some bleach in the tank and mix it with water and run through all our system.

I use bleach, never thought of peroxide!  3oz per hundred gallons. I mix the bleach with a quart of water and starting with an empty hose pour the water into the supply end of the hose using supply pressure to send it to tank.  Working time is important, I let the bleach sit overnite befor flushing. If you have a filter remove the element as some will remove clorine.   HTH JIm

I do about the same as jjr except I only use about two of the bleach bottle caps full. I don't know how many ounces that is but my tank is 90 gal.

I don't flush the tank because that is so little bleach it is hardly noticable, we even drink it depending on the smell and taste. Usually it is ok with a very slight bleach odor, not much different than the typical city water smell.

As we top off with fresh water after that all is well.

I heard one guy used to put a small amount of Vodka in his...Now that's funny...Don't know how much...Maybe he was pulling my leg. I like the bleach idea better cause I don't drink the other stuff. ;)

Title: Bleach...Vitamin C...and Alcohol
Post by: HB of CJ on September 22, 2008, 07:20:06 PM
If you have some left over bleach smell/taste, vitamin C crystals will neutralize the bleach.  Forgot how much or what molarity.

And....since everyone knows that vitamin C causes scurvey, the only know cure is lots of alcohol taken internallly.  Hick.  :) :) :)

Bleach is much cheaper than Vodka but doesn't taste as good.

The lack of Vitamin C causes scurvey.
