I have access to a Cummins ISL 400 hp with an allison md300 tranny. The motor has about 30,000 and appears in excellent shape. The motor and tranny are out of a 2002 Country Coach. I can get everything I need as the fire was in the front half. The guy wants $6500.00 for everything I will need.
Anyone have an opinion. I am not sure if this is the way to go!
Thanks in advance.
Grant
Grant; that is a good buy but measure it may be to long for MCI with the Allision that is a 9 liter engine and most of RV engines were 2500 rpm that I been around check the ecu most of the time they have damage from being shorted out from a fire
Thanks for that input. If it doesn't work in my bus, would anyone else be interested? I have no monetary interest in its sale. I can send you pictures that I took today!
Thanks
Grant
Just to keep the record straight, Cummings never made diesel engines.
Hey Grant,
That is an AWESOME combination. It would work perfectly in any MCI 9 (for sure) and later. I think it would also fit well in the MC7 and MC8 busses as well. If you are up to the work of a repower you should definitely look closer at this. The price is excellent as long as all you need to buy is the electronic throttle pedal and shifter pad (assuming the fire was in the drivers area). My ISM/Eaton Autoshift combination cost me 8700. I wanted an ISL for my repower, but couldn't find any used ones. The ISL is lighter and shorter than the ISM.
HTH
thats 1300 gallons of fuel at 5/gal.

If that's what a guy wants to do, go for it. It's his money, right?
If I had that kind of green I'd repower my Eagle with the best money can buy. Then maybe I could keep up with Catskinner! ;D

Brian,I don't know much about the engines but did know they were over 5 inches shorter and 4 inches lower than the L10 so even with the Allison being 29 inches long they will work in a MCI that's good to know, because I have allways been told you need to change to the ZF transmission. have a great evening
Paul, guy asked opinions.
I gave mine.
OK, I will bite, since no one else will. For the record, Cummins made no diesels? :) :) :)
Cummin(g)s vs. Cummins
I knew there was a reason I stayed with Detroit Deesels ;D ;D ;D

Oh, now I understant Master.....g instead of m. Or...is it the other way around? No..wait...what I meen to says is....oh well. he he he :) :) :)
In my opinion, the Cummins ISL at 400hp and 1200lb/ft torque is just about the perfect engine for swapping. As stated, it is 500lb lighter than the 6V-92TA, and you can use the smaller 3000 series transmission. The big deal is the rear end ratio. Granted, you can just leave it be and just use 4th (1:1) or 5th (.75:1) of the transmissions gear, but to get full use of the 6th speed (.65:1) with 12R-22.5 rubber at 487rpm, the bus should be geared to be at 1800rpm at 75mph. That would be 4.55 rear ratio. If you stay with the 3.70 that it probably has now, in fifth at 75 you'd be turning 1690rpm-which it might do alright. Personally-I'd go for the Cummins ISL setup-you'll be very pleased with it-course there's alot of electronics you'll have to setup. Make sure you take the gas pedal and the pad shifter with wires from the front. Good Luck, TomC
If I cannot get my hands on the pad shifter or gas pedal, what are we talking about as far as cost for these items?
Thanks for all the help.
Grant
other things you will need will be a air to air charger CC had a long narrow one I don't know how it would fit a MCI and the transmission cooler was outside the radiator also and for the pad you will have to take serial number to Allision there are several pads for that transmission the small things will add up the wiring harnesses for the engine and transmission are not going to be cheap
If you buy a new gas pedal and shifter, you'd be in the $2,000 range. But, I'm sure you could get them from a junk yard also-many garbage trucks use the ISM which is similar with similar electronics. Good Luck, TomC
