Title: 50DN rotor shaft went bad
Post by: Tenor on September 14, 2008, 01:36:40 PM
My shaft and pulley went bad on my 50DN alternator - does anyone know where I can get a new rotor?  It went bad because the po did not intstall the pulley properly and the splines went out.  This for an oil cooled pulley driven unit on my MCI 7.  I know the rest of the unit is ok.  Thanks!

If you can not get an alternator shop near you to do it, you could try, Nimco, Caylor, or Luke at US Coach.

I use parts and rebuild kits from Kirk's - http://www.kirksauto.com/.

did you resolve the problem? do you know if the parts are the same on an air cooled unit? if so I may have some parts.

Getting a new rotor is easy, but parts for the pulley hub may not be so easy to come by. MCI had none, Delco had none and I was lucky enough to find used components to get me going.

Finally got back home to make an update.  We found 2 150 amp Leece Nevile alternators.  One is now mounted off of the engine cradle bolt on the curb side running off of the crank.  We will make a braket to attach the other to the original 50DN bracket and run it from the original pulley.  That'll give me 300 amps of charging to run my sw4024 going down the road and run 2 roof airs when needed.  I also will have nice redunancy and great parts availability!  I'll park the old 50DN and sit on it for now.  Thanks guys!

Unless you have the original airconditioning fitted and running, you will probably find that one 150A alternator is adequate.
