I spent my Saturday at Raceway Park, Englishtown, New Jersey, at the Diesel Nationals. And YES, I raced the bus! I brought home a 4 ft. trophy, a dashboard plaque, and a eliminator sticker. I made it to the King-Of-The-Hill finals, and I was in the eliminations for a $5,000 purse. (Man, was I dreaming about that purse!!! Makes it hard to concentrate on the Christmas tree!!) I made it down to three trucks before I was eliminated. My bus became the crowd favorite, which was strange to hear over the PA system. They said in a couple of days they will have the pictures posted on their website of all the participants. www.racewaypark.com click on links click on photo shop. It was cool to see some of the amazing diesel vehicles, like a diesel motorcycle, and of course, all the beautiful trucks. I met a few bus nuts from Maryland...(maybe time for another pondering meeting at the R&R Grill and Bar??!!)
All of my dial-in times were within 2/1000s of a second, so the bus ran real consistent. Although my reaction times were a little off. I'll let you guys guess at what the Ets were. (8V71NA/4 speed manual). All in all, it was a long, fun day with lots to do and see. Pix below.
;D
:D
:o
That's just too much. My eyes are so green right now.
You may not have won first prize there but you get it here just for having what it takes to get out there and try. Good for you!! ;D
Hi Ed,
I would have never guessed.... That's too cool!
I went to New Jersey Motorsports Park to watch the Mazda Formula Zoom Zoom Race, North Eastern Porshe club race,
and caught 3 really neat HP go cart races.
Nick-
You, sir, are my new hero. When I grow up I want to do things like that too. well done.
Hmmmm!
Great job! ;D BK ;D
That is so cool! Did you empty the fridge to get a better time? ;D How many passengers were you taking? :D
Glenn

Great job, and i'll bet fun too.
as someone else said, my eyes are [glow=red,2,300]green[/glow].
Congrats from me too. I would have never thought a plain jane bus could make it against trucks souped up for racing.
Ed you just created a whole new level of BUSNUT!
kool, what class??
Belfert,
I think they are handicapped.....a bunch. ;D
John
I'm jumping in 33sec 1/4's. Thats being optimistic but hey I'm giving you the benefit of doubt.
Thanks everyone, I still hear train horns and diesels, they say the photos are uploaded to their website Tuesday after the race.
Glenn, No everything was full, fresh water and all.
Belfert, That's why the have bracket racing or elimination's, you have your dial in time and that determines your head start to make all times equal.
Niles, Some people there where calling me nuts all so, not the first time I've heard that scene I bought a bus.
Tekebird Doug, Z class, go to the web site click on the diesel nationals page and they list all the classes. Z= large diesel powered bus.
John, No handicap.
Quantum500, faster than that, but your close.
I posted all the pictures I took on the Yahoo link below.

Our oldest son (27) and I went to www.midohio.com Mid Ohio Sports Car Course and watched the NASA Championship racing (National Auto Sport Association) They used rain tires in the morning but by afternoon the track dried out. Lots of good racing and many types including: Factory Five, Camaro Mustang Challenge, CMC2, 944Spec, American Iron & AIXtreme, Honda Challenge, 944 Cup/Super Cup, Spec Focus, Spec Miata, German Touring Series, Performance Touring, and Spec E-30. No bus race but one Newell coach attended.
But Sunday afternoon became windy with afteraffects of hurricane Ike. We will be cleaning up for a while.

YOU are "The Man"!!!!!! That is just too cool.
Chaz
What was your quarter times? Good Luck, TomC
Ed, My wife says You and I are not allowed to play together, never ever! As a run what You brung kind of person I only want to know what You do when You drop the drive shaft? You are number 1 in My book. Only in america! John
Naw... The real question is, "How much money did you make on side-bets?" No average joe is going to look at a bus up against a "smaller" vehicle like a semi and bet on the bus.
