Title: Jacks Geriatric Busnuts Hangout North Annex
Post by: cody on September 07, 2008, 07:37:17 AM
In the Chat room yesterday, the fearsome threesome, (Dallas, Slowrider, and Hightechredneck) and I were discussing what to do with a piece of property I have here in the UP.  We came up with the idea of combining a anti-snowbird idea where people go north to escape the beautiful summer weather and bikini season in the sunny south and an anti-S&S theme park where all rigs must be at least 10 years old and all generators must be contractor models and run after 10PM, dogs cannot be leashed and children can run and play and make as much noise as they want, also, adult beverages must be in the original containers lol.  I've got a 13 acre piece thats sitting quietly in a country setting mostly wooded but with power, water, etc already there and room for a few rigs already, cost would be what the power would run and maybe a cup of coffee or three lol.  Any thoughts, now don't get all fancy with ideas all I'm trying to do is feed some mosquitos, poor little critters are starving. ;D

If we could get a few places scattered around the countryside, it would be better for everyone, just places where busnuts could gather and kick tires between rallys and stuff like that, places where if a person wanted to make some noise or sawdust or maybe their rig was more than 10 years old they wouldn't get condemned.

How far in the UP?  Would we need block heaters in July? ;)

How far?  Pretty close to Lake Superior, actually close, we're about a mile or so from the lake.  Block heaters are always a good idea to have handy, a few years ago we had snow in the air during the 4th of july parade, both floats had snow tires on so it was ok.  One good thing tho, is that mosquitos can't fly with long underware on and it takes them a while to walk from campsite to campsite.  To pinpoint it exactly Skanee is the town or actually crossroads as the case may be.

No, engine idling is fine.  It helps kill the mosquitos.  ;)

We're neck deep in gathering information, at this point I have a paid for 13 acre parcel thats 3/4 woods but has roads cut thru it, there is a great well, a septic system with a clean out (read dump lol), it also has a large clearing that could hold several rigs with very little leveling needed.  Electric is already on site with a 600amp transformer at the road, basically it is a working homestead that would accomodate several buses.  Thats what we've figured out so far.

Cody,

Can we build a pit, so we can work under the bus.  How about a bus wash, and paint booth  ???

I like it, I like it.

Bill, mother nature is one step ahead of you lol, there is a gully along side the driveway that a ramp could easily be built out over lol, some railroad ties and some bracing and poof, a pit lol.  The bus wash is a mile north of there, has a sand beach and tall pines.  Can't help you with the paint booth unless we can recruit some seagulls but I'm afraid the color selection might be kinda limited.  One thing I looked over was a possible area to make sawdust, there is a 12x20 shed that could be easily adapted to hold tools with an area in front of it that appears like a good spot to put a bus to play with.  All these ideas are good and could almost be workable, for people trying to escape the heat and humidity found in the south or west during the summer months while maybe thinking about puttering with their buses, this could possibly work out.
