Title: The good and the bad
Post by: BUR on August 31, 2008, 09:10:10 PM
I got this bus back from the paint shop Monday.  Mike did an awsome job for me.  Busted, the part of my body I sit on, getting ready for my Colorado trip.  Stayed in Hermiston, Oregon at my nephews home Saturday night.  Bus went up over Cabbage Hill better than I expected, thing were going well.  Now sitting just West of Bliss, Idaho at a rest area.  Blew left exhaust pipe going to turbo, will have to stay in area until Tuesday morning until Detroit shops open in Jerome or Twin Falls.  We don't feel too bad being stranded in a near completed conversion that we love.  Will try to keep you posted.

BUR,

Sorry to hear of your delema.  If DD is slow you might try this.  Cut the defective section of pipe out and take it to a exhaust shop.  They can bend an exact match and  expand both ends to fit over your existing pipe.  Two clamps at each end and you can wait till you get home for the "real" fix.  Not that you haven't thought of this already.

Bur, Smith DD doesn't have a place in Twin Falls you will need to go to Boise. There is a guy on the north side of I 84 in Jerome at the last exit headed west that sales buses maybe he can help you or send you to one of the tour operators like Sun Valley . Smith will probably have to order it from Salt Lake  good luck

Smith DD number is 208-345-1500

Thanks for the replies to my little problem. We are doing fine, a little inconvenience in our schedule but we will make it work. JohnEd as luck would have it, it broke off right at the lower flange, it is still driveable so I can get it to town when needed. (with no turbo its not pretty or fast)  Luvrbus some good info
I use to drive truck by their (Jerome) all the time, but I didn't think about the bus place. That may be a better bet than DD. We will take the toad today
and check around. So for now we are still stranded in style.    Thanks again   BUR

luverbus    Sorry I havn"t got back with you guys. I will try to keep it short, we band aided the pipe to get going again. Headed towards Salt Lake. At Tremonton it started blowing white Smoke. Limped into Smiths DD in Salt Lake replaced the pipe, started out again got out on I-80 and turned around.
Had alot of smoke and no power. Took it back to Smiths, lost a valve seat and did the cylinder in. Spent a couple of days thier and took the Dakota PU
and headed to Colorado. The Bus is the shop and waiting for parts (as of 09-09). We are in Hudson Colorado still vacationing without the Bus, will pick it up on the way back through Salt Lake next week, hopfully.
