how can i tell the difference between the two, the engine # on the rocker cover is 70877640

8V71TA will have a turbo charger  on the engine as well as the supercharger, and an aftercooler. 8V71(N) will have only the supercharger  Jack

i forgot the t on the 8v71 , so the question is the diff between 8v71 t or the 8v71 ta

There are some Ts out there but an 8V71TA would be a rare bird>>>Dan

The A stands for aftercooler. It is under the supercharger. The engine block is milled out for this to fit there. You can not see the aftercooler. There is a 1.25 inch diameter Brass line attached to the 2.5" water line that goes to the front of the left head and to the thermostat housing at the top of the engine. This line after it tee's off has a short piece of rubber hose about 4" long and then goes to another brass pipe that goes into the top of the engine between the heads. This is behind the left cams shaft external drive pulley and in front of the supercharger. This is sorta hidden dark hole area.
