I have a trucking company in my neighborhood that is parting out an old truck they don't use and it has a Silver92 in it, It has jake's but would need rebuilt, They want $1500.00 for it, my question is is it worth it to have to rebuild and switch out my old 318 or get it for the jake's and some other parts. And would the turbo work to turbo up the 318 thanks any input would be apreciated Jason
Hi Jason,
First, find out if it is a right hand or a left hand rotation engine.
Then ask around what it would cost to do an out of cradel rebuild.
Then you would have to research what's involved to install it in your bus. If I were going that far, I would mate it to an automatic trans.
Good Luck
Nick-
I would pay 1500 for it the turbo will probably be to big for using on the 8v71 and coming from a truck it will be right hand the parts are worth more than that let me know if you don't want it, the engine is only about 2 inches longer than your 8v71 and a fairly easy swap for you but the cooling maybe a problem for you good luck
As Clifford said, it will be a right hand rotation engine. But there are still some items that make it a challange to swap. It can be done, and if your rebuilding it in the first place you can change out those items while doing so! Many times the cams need changed for the rear gear drives (think Alt, pwr strg pump, air compressor). Also the front mount which is part of the oil pump housing! But again if your rebuilding it those are easy to replace while apart. I'm like Clifford it's worth the price in parts, core charges are high these days! FWIW ;D BK ;D
