I will be taking I35 through Kansas City in a few weeks. Mapquest suggests taking a bunch of different interstates through the Kansas City metro area and taking I70 back over to I35.
Why not just continue on I35 south through Kansas City? Is taking I35 the whole way longer?
Brian, some of I35 if not all now in Kansas has a toll fee and they charge by the axle not cheap why do think Dorthy left
Brian if I remember correct I saw where you are heading to Wichita. Correct?
OK if it were me I'd take I-35 to I-435 South to I-435 West (same rd diff. name) to I-35 South again! And keep on truck'n! (which is the way I used to go all the time back in the day I drove trucks thru there on a regular basis!)
By the way I hate MAPQUEST! I really hate it when people charter a bus and then use MAPQUEST to set their times without discussing departure and arrival times with us. Because they are almost never there when they want to be and act like it's our fault that they trusted MAPQUEST and didn't allow for #1) it's a bus, and doesn't make as good of time as a sports car! #2) any stops you make cost from 15 mins to a quick rest area, to 2 hrs to feed a whole bus load of folks! #3) MAPQUEST does not consider time zone changes (or the customers don't pay attn!) #4) MAPQUEST is notorious for being WRONG!

Only the portion of I35 below Kansas City has a toll. The toll is around $10 for four axles which doesn't seem to bad, especially after my $55 toll in Pennsylvania for three axles when I bought the bus.
There isn't a rael good free alternative. In the bus, an extra 15 or 20 miles will eat up the savings on the toll.
I 35 has a toll from Wichita to the OK line if your are going past Wichita
Hi Brian
Take 1-35 into northeast KC, turn south on I-435 stay on it until it turns west as I-435 west and follow it until in southwest KC you pick up I-35 south again. Follow it until you meet up with I-335 and I-35 at Emporia, KS which will be toll road into Wichita.
You can stay on I-35 all the way through KC but it goes right through downtown. Not horrible but busy. Emporia to Wichita is about 160 miles of toll road.
Quickest, easiest is 435 route
