Post by: bear355 on July 26, 2008, 11:37:56 AM
I have a 74 MC8.The rightside parking brake can (REAR) is leaking. It is not made like our GMC 4106 which we have rebuilt in the past. You can release them  with a bolt. How do we rebuild the ones on our MCI?

The MC-8 uses Bendix DD3 brakes on the drive axles. Here is a link to the Bendix website that explains the operation of the DD3. They can be rebuilt.  Bendix website has many helpful pages inclding part list and technical bulletins.  Jack

Bear, Which cans can you release with a bolt? If your 8 than someone has changed them to spring brakes. Which should not be opened.  Tom Y

Amen!
Or does it have 2 or 3 line attach to it....3 line is DD3, not spring brake can. Or a photo of it to be sure what you have. If it is spring brake can and if in fact an older 60's version, they can be taken apart which is very dangerous. Now days, they are sealed unit as far as the heavy spring can end portion.

If all you need is to replace the diaphragms, replacements are available much cheaper from Mohawk Industries.  Jack

We ordered a diaphram kit from Mohawk at 1/2 what MCI wanted.
