Title: Slowing down does save fuel.
Post by: Catskinner! on July 23, 2008, 07:46:53 PM
I just returned from filling my bus with fuel.
Yes it cost me $547.00, but I was thrilled when
I figured my fuel mileage.  Two weeks ago I made
four trips to downtown Dallas and back to watch
my grandaughter play Volleyball in the junior Olympics.
I watched my speed and never did get over 65 Mph,
which resulted in 9.47 Mpg.

Sonnie Gray if I didn't know you I would not buy that you watching your speed and driving 65 mph with the 3406. the mpg shows what gearing and a good engine can do for a bus I knew you were getting 7 to 7.5 before you slowed down. I read where Jim's ( Rv safety) mileage went up on his series 60 by slowing down

Last year on a trip from Michigan to South Dakota and back in my MC9 6V 2 stroke while hauling a 7,000 lb enclosed trailer, kept speeds around 65 and got exactly 8 mpg. I was happy as can be.

My 06 when i had the spicer got 10 mpg regardless of speed, i went across country running 75 mph towing a car, got 10 mpg, went across the mountains on both sides of the country still got 10 mpg, speed didnt seem to matter. i dont really understand this but thats the way it was, guess it averages out. now have a 730 and get 7 mpg

Yes it has a real sweet spot
between 77 and 80 mph.
And with 2.93 Gears this was
still just cruising.

we managed to get up to 7.1mpg between Florida and Ohio by driving 60 +/- 5 up i75.  i hate getting passed, but my navigator hates paying for fuel.  i don't think that's bad mpg for an 8/92t pulling a fairly loaded full size van.  i think that's up from 6 usually at 75mph
