Title: Daytona 400 Parking question
Post by: Kwajdiver on June 30, 2008, 06:16:15 PM
Hey Gang,

I'm planning on going to the Coke Zero 400, (believe that is the name this year) at Daytona Beach next weekend. The race is July 5th. Would like to go up the day before if I could find a place cheap to park the bus.   The speedway wants $250.00 for two nights in the parking like.  The local RV Parks get $100.00.

Wondering if Kmart or a local parking lot will allow overnight parking?  Anyone, done this in Daytona for the race.  I need to be with-in walking distance, don't have a toad.  Hummm, do have a super trailer hitch, but no toad to hook to it.

Thanks for the help,

Bill

Daytone is quite strict about RV parking.

you might get away with a night at the Cracker Barrel

I strongly suspect that you, along with at least 10,000 more, are looking for the same thing. My experience living in Florida for several years that nobody is going to give you free overnight parking.

You can park here at my place but how long would it take you to walk the hour fifteen minute long drive?

You will be VERY hard pressed to find a parking place other than a park in Daytona ESPECIALLY during a scheduled race!

Kwajdiver there is a WalMart off I-95 @ Hwy 40. I used to park there at night and take my hour break when I drove for UPS. Also North on I-95 (just past the Harley Davidson) when you get off the Dixie Hwy exit to the right there is a 7-11 and a Publix shopping center, both are well lit.  You could probably spend the night at either of these place if you can't find an RV park. I'm going to be near there for a family get together, but won't be going to the track this time around. When you get to the track be careful where you park if you wind up in the field. There are certain areas that can be quite muddy if it's been raining, and you would NOT want to get the bus stuck in there. Take care.

Thanks for the input..... I don't want to take the bus to the track.  Would like to leave it at Kmart, across from the track.  Kmart, has another company come in and handle their parking lot.  Can't seem to find out, if they allow RV's and how much they charge.

Blacksheep, just how far do you live from the track, and do you REALLY have room for a bus......

Every time I have went to the track in a CAR the K-Mart parking started out being 20 bucks. Last time I went it was 40 bucks! That was the LAST time I went!

I live in Lakeland which by car I can make it to the track without stopping in about 1.25 to 1.50 hours. Yes I have plenty of room for a bus or two!

Bill

Parking is tight here in the Daytona Beach Area - Walmarts are off limits for sure - sorry

We live in an HOA (Home Owners Assoc.) community - can't even park my own bus here overnight

I'll be in Savana attending an SCCA race with my son - sorry I can't help you out

Pete,

Your the only smart one, getting OUT of Daytona this coming weekend.  I know Kmart has parking, the store doesn't no anything about parking overnight.  They gave me a number to call, tried once today, will try again tomorrow.  Wish I knew someone with a business near the track they would, just let me park in there back lot.....LOL   ::)

People in hell want ice water too...... :o

I seem to remember the Kmart on International Speedway Blvd (ISB) - the parking lot is not owned by Kmart - the owner does rent out to RV during race events - keep trying them

also note that at I95 exit #273 (Us 1- careful there are more than 1 US1 exits on I95)

there is now a HUGE LOVES Station (1657 N US Highway 1, Ormond Beach, FL - (386) 671-9585‎)  just west of the exit - next to Harley's "Destination Daytona" (actually Ormond Beach) - Don't know there policy - but trucks park there all night ?? -

because of Loves - there is an abandon truck stop on the South/EAST
corner of that exit- with trucks there EVERY NIGHT

also across from Destination Daytona - there is --> AA Accurate Truck & Tire Repair
1644 North US / Located At I-95 & US 1 (Exit 273). Ormond Beach FL 32174-2525. Phone: 386-615-0036
They have a large storage Lot

These are all about 15 miles from The Daytona Track (exit 261B on I95)

P.S. - Kwaj-Diver
I also have dove - Kwaj / Guam / Truck / Palow / Great Barrier / Hong Kong

Bill,

Just get some Krylon spray paint and put a huge "88" on both sides of your bus then park in the pit area!  ;D
