Title: Silver Eagle Steering Column ?
Post by: BusCrazyinFL on June 30, 2008, 01:24:59 PM
I had to order some siding for my Eagle 05 last week and I also asked them if the steering column they sell would fit my Eagle 05. Dan (in parts) said it would. My question is this, has anyone bought one from them and how hard was it to replace in your bus, and if you ran into any problems? Here is their web site  http://www.silvereaglebus.com/  You may also want to check out their new video of the new Eagle 25 in Nashville.

I never bought one from Dan but I did buy one from Eagle some years back, you are talking about the unit that tilts and extends with the dimmer switch on the column if so they are not hard to install I am having more problems installing the smart wheel I bought from Dan this rewiring is a bitch. Manny I looked at the web site that is same one I have. One modification you will need to make is on the 05 the top bracket will need to be cut off so the new support will work not a big deal with a saw and a drill

Thanks Luvrbus for the info. I was just wondering how hard it was to install . I also was thinking about the wiring of the turn signals. This coming weekend I'm going to take the front bumper off and take a look at my steering box and study it to get and idea of what to do in the future. I'm just dreaming for now...

This may not help much, but I had a tough time with mine on my 10.  the OEM shaft had the small coupling near the attach point at the power steering gear shaped like a small bell which acted similar to a U joint, and it had tabs on it that would also slide up and down inside the bell.  When I bought a VIP tilt steering column I couldn't find parts like that to attach the VIP, so I cut the last few inches of my old OEM column and welded it to the bottom of the VIP shaft.

I could not get it just straight by eyeball so now it was "out of tune" with the U joint, very frustrating to steer.  I took it off and went to a driveshaft place to get it "true".  When I said what it was for no one would touch it.  I finally took it to a machine shop and told the guy it was off an irrigation well pump coupler and he fixed me right up.  It's ashamed I had to lie to get this done, but everyone fears being sued.

Anyway,  3 years now and the column works great.  Perhaps now that Eagle is back going again you can get the parts from them that will work without major modifications.
