Title: Tag axle question
Post by: arctic fox on June 28, 2008, 05:48:15 AM
I have a 1972 Prevost with air lift tag.  How do you adjust the load on the tag axle?  Right now the tag is caring about 1,000# over gross and the rear axle is about 10,000# under gross.

This is my first post. We have a 1972 prevost prestige silver 8v92ta 5speed allison two stage jake 3.70 rear.
I have added aqua hot,8kw diesel generator and 2500 inverter. Will try to get some picture soon. I have owned this bus since 1995 It is going to take me a while to get through the over 300 pages of post lots of good and entertaing reading. thanks Jerry

I would think it is an air pressure issue, give it more air and it will take more of the load off the Duals.

A weigh station will not give you more than about 20,000lbs legal on that drive in the states. Hard to believe it is only around 10,000lbs now. 1000lbs extra on a tag is not necessarily a bad thing unless you are saying it is over 12,000lbs. If thats the case I would guess the problem is not enough air in the drive bags.

If you are serious about wanting adjustable axel weights take a look at any heavy haul truck or trailer with a drop axel. All the parts are available from a trailer supply shop for a couple hundred per axel.

Call the dealership, I have found them to be very helpful and very good at diagnosing things.
