Hi Folks,

Here is the cover of the latest Motorhome Magazine.

A Varanda on a Country Coach.... Really Cool! I like it! I gotta do this!

Attach a screen room to your awning and you're all set!  Super cool!

The slide out on the other side has a bowling alley.

WOW !    ;D ;D ;D

Instead of a slide out, why couldn't you fold down one side of the bus.

Here's the press release:

http://www.countrycoach.com/company/news/index.cfm?mode=news&article=754 (http://www.countrycoach.com/company/news/index.cfm?mode=news&article=754)

I predict it will be a dismal failure.  Does anyone remember the "SkyDeck"?  They also thought "demand [would] outstrip supply."

If you go to the site on the press release it looks like the side does fold down.  You can see the side window on the end of the balcony.

I am not too sure I would want some thing that could be open to the elements like that.

Once you're into the idea of fold-down sides (and fold-up roofs) there is no limit to what you can do - we've all seen exhibition vehicles like the one below that use this system:

(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventms.com%2Fimages%2Fvehicles%2Fhdr_challenger2.jpg&hash=9d3c3aa3e258c19b509ee53294df43108349c319)

Structurally and engineringly, 'folding' is much easier to do than 'sliding', but the downside is that it takes much longer to set-up and take-down the room extension each time. The veranda idea is quite nice because a normal sliding patio door in the side of the vehicle takes care of all the weather sealing problems - the veranda itself doesn't have to be sealed, so the whole thing is quite simple.

I spent a long time researching some pretty wild room extension ideas before deciding that a conventional slide-out arrangement was the best all-round solution. There are many ways to crack a nut, however, as browsing a few websites of specialist exhibition and showmen's vehicle builders will reveal

their add would be much more appealing with a mirror ball attached to the awning and a stripper pole in the middle.  and a bonus option that comes w/ dancer  ;D  more of a stage than a veranda!!!!

This is nothing new.  In the 60's and 70's, Open Road had both their chassis mount camper and motorhomes available with a rear fold down patio with the rear wall being all glass with a sliding glass door.  Personally, these huge slideouts that sometimes takes nearly the entire length of the motorhome makes me nervous with no side wall supports.  I have seen enough S&S accidents to know how flimbsey that most manufacturers make their structures.  Like one that said had a steel cage-if you consider 1" square tubing on 4ft centers a cage!
With my truck conversion, I'm using a custom made studio box with uprights on 16" centers, .090 aluminum sheet metal, with 2" square tubing cross members on 16" center with 1 1/8" hardwood flooring and no slide outs.  For me, slide outs are a pain in the but, especially if you're travelling everyday-just another thing to break or leak.  Good Luck, TomC

That looks like it is for city campers that do not want to have to touch the ground because they might get dirty or something ;.)

When I first saw this cover photo I thought it was the dumbest thing I had ever seen. My opinion of any type of slideout is not much higher. Can't you just see this thing getting stuck open in rain or snow!

This has to be a marketing thing since full length slideouts are their last possibility for covered ones.

Nick, I got the sawzall out and got started but can't afford brass for the pole so I'm using wood on ball bearing mounts. Older women these days ;D

We are at the Escapade in Gillette, WY, and Guaranty RV has brought one of these here.

I went through it today.  It's very nice, but the asking price is $750K, and I don't see anything here that justifies it.  Other than, of course, the unique whizz-bang deck.

The unit here is apparently #3 off the line.  I overheard a conversation wherein #2 is back at the factory for some major repairs, but I couldn't tell if those were related to the deck or not.

I'm going to venture a guess that all of the ~3000 or so folks here will wander through this rig, but no one will buy it.  I'll let y'all know if I see a "Sold" sign on it before the week's out.
