hi im looking to buy the 67 mc5 on the classifieds , but the shop were its at will not put a motor in it , it looks to be in very good shape except the engine is missing, so i will need to find a cratle ( its missing, also have a 6v92 put in were the 8/71 came out, any advise or help is always welcomed, thanks ken

For an engine upgrade it will need new radiators and possibly some additiponal cooling if you put an Auto behind it.
tell them you will give them 2k and will have it towed off thier land
OK now calm down and take a deep breath. You do not have to worry about somebody snapping up the old girl from under you nose. There are lots and lots of buses for sale. Slow down take your time.
Bus is for sale, is it converted? How much$$$$? Where is it, maybe somebody knows bus. Maybe someone in your area can look at it. What is your background? Any experience with bus's? Have you had it inspected by a BUS mechanic? Not the person you are buying it from either!!
Engin cradel is missing, can you be more specific? If the engine cradel and engin are missing I would guess there is no transmission either. If there is it, auto or standard?
Do you have any idea what is involved or the cost of change to larger engine? Buying a bus without motor is not a bad thing depending on your abilities and resources. Buying bus without engin rails is anothe story. I'd really want to know why they are not there.

hi thanks for the input, it has a 871 with a 740 auto, myself im a lic mechanic, but im 2500miles away, i thought the price wasnt to bad the interior is done, has new rims, bags, steering, brakes, velvac mirrors, corion counters , awnings ect, i figured with being a california bus it would be structual sound, wouls the 6/92 create more heat than the 871?
1. good chance it was not originally a CA bus.
1A. A 8v-71 and 740 will not fit in an MC-5
1B. A 5A's were all Sticks originally
2. It will cost you a few grand to repower, not including any problems
3. 2500 miles at 5mpg = 500 gallons of Fuel @ 5.00/Gal = 2500.00 to get it home after you make it run
4. All the new stuff can be bad...how long has it been sitting?
5. What happened to the engine?
My 14 cents.......for the money you will have in it.....there are likely available units much closer to home that you can drive prior to putting thousands into the project.
No Offense to 5 owners.....but It is one of my least favorite conversion platforms. Smallish Windows, Some of the smallast Baggage compartments in "modern" highway Coaches, Tight engine compartment.
I have a 1967 5a, and I would not buy another one. The fuel mileage is going to kill you. Why not get a GMC RTS from the 1990s with a modern Series 50, and convert it yourself? You can buy the shell on EBay periodiacally for about $7500, and if you put in 4.11 gears, you will get almost 11 mpg before conversion. This is what I did, and I checked the mileage carefully myself. You'll have a 40 foot x 8.5 foot coach with big windows and a really modern, sleek look. You will have about as much bay space as the MCI 5 if you reorganize underneath a bit. And you will be able to get service anywhere since it's a 4 stroke engine that won't leak oil everywhere you park.
