Title: Fellow BusNut can use some help
Post by: JackConrad on June 11, 2008, 10:31:05 AM
Dave does not know I am posting this (until he reads it). For those of you that do not know Dave Hartley ( Dave post as Dr.Dave), Dave & his wife Mary have been busnuts for many years owning several types of buses over years the including transit, RTS and presently a MC-9. Dave also owns and operates his bus conversion website www.rvbus.net (at his own expense) which is free to anyone that wants to use it.  Dave & Mary live in their bus on their property in Tennessee.
Recently Dave had to have surgery, which was followed by several complications. He no longer has the catheter, but will have the colostomy for a while. He has regained about 80% of the coordination between his brain and his right hand.  During his hospital stay, his pacemaker/defibrillator fired several times weakening the battery, so now he is facing yet another surgery to replace the battery.
Mary is working full time at barely minimum wage and better than 1/2 her check goes for health insurance. His part of the medical bills will probably be over 100K. This is their only income
At this point, they have to decide between food, medicine, power/water and phone.  Dave has done a lot over the years for fellow busnuts and I feel now is the time to help them.  Dave has a DONATE button on his website www.rvbus.net that was put there for anyone that wanted to donate to the cost of keeping the website going.  This button can also be used to help Dave & Mary.  Jack

Thanks Jack...this is a very urgent post. We have been praying before each meal for Dr Dave & wife every day since first known about it. With the help from all of the buts will go to help with his financial burden.
In the mean time, keep praying for healing and recovery.

Hi Folks,  I just want to add some background about Dr. Dave.

Dave Hartly is the kind of guy that is always reaching out to help another bus nut. He has always done things such as make a place for his bus friends on the web site he runs from his own pocket.
He once jumped right in to offer me help on my first trip to Florida with my bus by insisting I detour to his place in DeLand so he could help me fix my genset problem. I only knew him from a post or two at the time but, that didn't stop him. "or Me"

Now, he faces some hard times and I can only send him money at this time but, he needs help at his new homestead in Tenn. with maintaining the grounds and such. He has built a small camp with electric, water, and septic if any folks would like to pay him a small fee to stay as long as you like.

Well, I hope all turns out well for him and Mary because these are good people!

Thanks for listening
Nick-

You guys have no idea how much of a surprise the donations thing was,
I wasn't prepared for all of this and All I can say is that Mary and I are so very grateful and thankful that people are trying to help out.

I will try to stay active on the boards as much as possible to keep everyone updated on the situation. If you don't see me posting for a day or so don't worry.

Where we are;
We are located between Nashville and Knoxville just West of Cookeville Tennessee.
Actually the Baxter exit #280 on I-40 and about 9 miles after that.

Thanks So Very Much for helping...

Dave...

Dave,

We can't help financially right now, we are in the middle of a job, but please know that our thoughts are with you guys.

Possibly, when we get done with the project we're working on here, we can get down your way and give you guys a helping hand.

We know you can't offer free parking for long, so please let us know what the rental costs would be and we'll put some money aside.

It would really be great if several nuts could get together and spend a week or so helping Dr. Dave. My health is so poor that I could not offer any assistance so I hate to even mention it but it would be a great gesture if anyone can afford the fuel to get there.

Thanks for the Thought,

I am sort of holding my own at the moment. Got the guy up the street to mow and cut the
hayfield. Mary and our lone and mostly useless camper buddy ran the string trimmer a little.

Now before anybody jumps me about saying that our camper buddy is useless. That is what he told me.. Or was that worthless?.. Anyway he pays the meager rent/electric for his spot when asked and helps sometimes. About the only things to do here is watch the grass grow and count hummingbirds in the mornings.

If you are coming by this way and want to stop in for a while, I have the place even if I don't have full hookups I have enough here to make do. I can plug in 4 rigs with 50 amp and 3 with 30 amp and plugs for 15 amp for maybe another 4 rigs. Sewer is via using a portable tote tank (if you have one.) My lonely dump station is not plumbed much beyond
my parking spot. I do have WiFi available covering most of the property mainly because
cell phones don't work here in the valley.

Sorry to ramble on....

Dave....

Sounds like a good place to stop for a few days this fall when we make the trek south, I'm sure I can find a few things to keep me busy and out of trouble lol.  Well, almost out of trouble lol.

What we really need to do is set up a "non-rally" getogether and everybody pitch in and get somethings done for Dave while we are there and then turn over the $ from the "non-rally" to Dave & Mary as a token of our appreciation for allowing us to come do this for them! My charter season is coming to the dead period here in the next month and if anyones willing I'll be happy to meet them there to see what we can do! 270.705.1139

Good idea BK, but hard to get folk together for work in the summer.  Maybe happening in the fall?  Don't have to drive buses....pickups with whatever equipment one may need to do whatever is decided is neccessary?  One valuable project.  Something doable by non-coms.
If one project could be attended to on one weekend by a group, much could be done. Like lay in the drainfield?  That obviously isn't working.  Long as we get into it before winter sets in.   At a minimum, a pool could be established far away temporarily of course.
With a good print of the area, most of the planning could be done anywhere.
I'd be a player for a couple days.  Likely be in November....since many of my other dates are full.  Anyone interested?

Just an update.. Seems that back when the power company installed the transformer
for my rv sites they thought they would take the low and easy approach.. They only
installed a 5 KVA transformer. I just found that out this week when the serviceman
was here adjusting the big area lights.

The engineers were here and they should have a much larger transformer installed hopefully this coming week. I can see a need for a 25 kva but they don't want to
install one (YET).. They will give me a 15 kva if I am lucky.

As for actual room for parking... I guestimated that we have enough space for
100 or more coaches if we include the Eastern 10 acres where it is very dark
and quiet but no power.

On the other hand, If you have windows that open it is very nice here at night
with average temps around 63 degrees.. No Air Conditioning required.

I am thinking hard about expanding my sewer system connections but haven't
been able to do much other than think and plan. What funds I have are dedicated
to trying to get through the medical stuff which has broken the bank a few times
already and will be for some time.

I have to have a different surgery in the next month or so to replace my Pacemaker/Defibrillator due to the battery going dead slowly. Probably because
of 4 or more ZAPS to restart my heart while I was in the hospital. Not FUN !

I find that getting stuff done takes way longer than it used to...

Come one come all... Not much to do here... But if you have a bike, 4-wheeler, horse, goat & cart or whatever there are a lot of back roads to explore if you like that stuff...

Dallas and others... I would not officially ask for a camping fee as such. I might ask for a small voluntary donation to help support the place. The only hard cash costs would be for electric & utilities where provided.

Everyone else (general public) ( not bus people ) the base is $150 a month Plus electric.

Right now I am working by private invitation/reservation only and not generally open to the public because I have a lot of stuff that needs to be done before I get a full license and can put up signs.

Email me for more info or my phone number....

Sawdust... Hmmmm...
All I got are tree branches.. wait, I have a bunch of barn type wood that might have
a use somewhere... Maybe a new art form???

I got 2 skill saws, table saw (bargain special) and even some old hand operated saws.
Too much junk and most of which is buried in my shipping container.

Well, Don't know what we could build.. Still don't have a clue where to get funds or financing to build a house or lean-to yet...

Dave....
