Post by: mrlightrail on June 10, 2006, 09:52:21 AM
A guy is sellig this bus for 2k, and he states that it runs and drives, I'm thinking that it is a 4106, but I'm not totally sure.

Here is a link to the picture of the coach.

Current owner states that the coach is a 1961 model. From what I can tell, it does not appear to be a Greyhound conversion, as I do not see any baggage bins.

Nick,
5803?
I didn't realize that GMC ever made a coach to carry more than 49 passengers.
I haven't been able to bring his links up, but as soon as I can, I'll see what I can find.

Dallas, can you look at his link and correct it so it will open for the rest of us?

Dallas,

I have 3 oldtimers here in the shop working on a generator, I showed them the pics. and 2 of them

quickly identifyed it as 5803 40' gmc. They could be wrong, but I doubt it!

We will see, some others may reply!

Richard,
I've been working on it for an hour and I can't make it work.

Nick,
I did forget about the 5301 that MTA and NYtransit had.
Just because I never heard of a 58 passenger model, doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

After all, when the Platypus was first discovered, scientists said, "There can't be no such crittur!"

Nick,
Why don't you copy and paste the photo's here?

I think... it IS happy that it's a GMC.  :D

Seriously, it looks like it's spring-sprung to me, and not a transit or parlor.

Here's more GMC info than you can shake a stick at: http://www.coachinfo.com/AllAboutBuses/GMC_Info.html

That thing is probably a skoolie of some sort, GMC never made a highway coach with that much rear overhang.

There was one GMC model made for the military in the '50s or '60s that was more Transit than Coach and it had an overhang like that. It had vertical doors in the rear which opened to load litter patients and also carried seat passengers.

I think it is a Crown, based on the bumper design, which was unique to one brand. If I were home I could find it in one of my many bus booke.

GMC based Superior Body.

They made all sorts of special order stuff for Military, bookmobiles etc.

Sorry, I'm not a diesel guru...All I know is that it's painted green, and valve covers have General Motors Corporation on them. Other than that I don't know...
