Title: Please add your date of birth
Post by: bubbaqgal on May 31, 2008, 08:28:26 AM
I have missed being able to wish a happy birthday to some of you because you don't have your date of birth on your profile.  If you would, please add it there so we can all send our good wishes to you.  You don't have to put the year of birth if you don't want to but if you will add the rest we can celebrate your day with you.        Thanks!

Please don't add your date of birth......

My reason for not putting the date is a birthday is an important piece of information in indentity theft.  No sense in putting it out there where it can be easily had. Generally if someone has your birthday, mothers maiden name and SS#, they are good to go.  No sense in helping them out.  Data can be correlated, so they can get different bits from different locations.

Maybe this is just paranoid.

The other thing is I like to use the "Show unread posts since last visit".  When the page is all clogged up with birthday wishes, it takes more effort to find the bus related stuff.  Since these pesky wishes appear all the time, they can't really be moved fast enough to the off topic by the moderators.  Bah Humbug  :o)

ps, I just had a birthday (58), and I was fine relying on my family and not getting a wish here.

One could always post their DOB with a bogus year...

Interesting that you should mention that...

The "Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit" button only shows the topics last posted in... not each post. If you aren't happy with reading about someone else's good wishes, it's easy enough to skip that post and then when your done reading all the posts and threads you ARE interested in, just click "Mark ALL messages as read".

Personally, I feel this board isn't a business, (That's on the other side of the website, { www.gobussing.com www.busconversions.com }), it's a place for like minded individuals to come together to enjoy and share the triumphs and tragedies of their lives and their conversion(s). Too bad you don't feel the same.. some of our members no longer post because they have gone to the great conversion center in the heavens.

As for the possibility that your Birthdate is gonna be stolen.... You might want to take a look in your own garbage, Or get rid of your Yahoo account, or delete your use of Google, or if you use eBay... don't. All of those take your infomation and it is far from secure... As Blacksheep about eBay practices for instance.

I'm really sorry that you are so unhappy here. I wish we could please everyone, but it's just not possible, just as making a totally secure life isn't.. your gonna die of something, so you might as well enjoy yourself now!

I didn't ask for the year, just the month and date. Since you are also not posting your other personal information on the site for others to see I don't see where it would hurt to have those dates but if you don't want to do that then don't post it.  I think it is a shame that some people want to take the joy out of being wished a happy birthday and try to take the joy out of wishing someone else a happy birthday.  Since I do put on the subject line that it is a birthday wish then, by all means, feel free not to read what I have posted.  I was asked to do the birthdays, I will continue to do the birthdays and you can feel free to like it or not.  My name is not Scrooge!

While we are on the subject, who feels like these should be posted in Off Topic, or remain where they are?

Leave them where they are. I don't go to ot very often and enjoy seeing who is getting older with me.

I will post mine as soon as I find out how.

I assumed (and you know what means) that most, if not all, members used the option of show unread posts since last visit which includes all the different boards.

Having met and spent time with Dallas & Cat at several locations in several states, I can tell you a birthday wish from Cat is from the heart, not just words poked out on a computer keyboard.  Jack

If it wasn't for CAT posting the Birthday Wishes I wouldn't know who's having one when. Some people I know, most I do not.

As far as where to post them, leave them where they are. They are bus related because they are busnuts Birthdays! Besides I don't frequent the OT area much.

Thanks Cat,

Paul

I have never met Dallas & Cat, to me they are a great access to this MAK board in everything they do.

If any one don't want to at least put in month & day for birthday...there is all kinds of people.

About which topic.....a bus board would never be there if it hasn't been for busnuts to respond.

Off Topic is off topic....meaning anyone (non busnut as well) can talk about anything that is nothing to with bus and it owner.

So I believe it owner or busnut should be in bus topic.
