Title: Any tricks for loosening pipe fitting?
Post by: belfert on June 09, 2006, 03:35:39 PM
I am removing some excess heater hose under my bus since I removed the baseboard radiator heat inside.  Anyhow, I am trying to remove a barbed pipe fitting from a tee and it won't budge.  There are actually three or four tees together.  The tee just rotates when I try to remove the barbed fitting with a 12" adjustable wrench.  I sprayed it down with WD-40 several times yesterday evening.  I also tried a pipe wrench to hold the tee.

Any suggestions to get this barbed fitting out?

You may have to simply cut the hose off in order to remove the barbed fitting. Can the hose be replaced and is it soemthing you will need later? Good time to do it IMHO!

The hose is going bye bye.  I want to remove the barbed fitting from the tee to put a plug in the tee.  I can't get the barbed fitting to come out.

If holding the T and putting a box end wrench on the fitting with as much leverage as you can will not budge it, put some heat to the T.  Should come right out then.

Brian if Ross's tip doesn't help go ahead and take the "T" off and cap the line or use a plai coupling itf still using the other line, just a thought! FWIW! Knuckle

Okay, using heat on the tee allowed me to remove the barbed fitting.  I was able to get a brass plug installed after I found one.

I couldn't really replace the tee with an elbow as each side of the tee had a barbed fitting and I doubt the other two would come out any easier.

I had to use my MAPP gas torch as my hair dryer burned up a few years back.  I was a little concerned about starting a fire with the torch, but all ended well.  I need to go back out and start loading fresh antifreeze back in the bus.
