Post by: loadera10 on May 13, 2008, 11:35:06 AM
Can you guy's tell me what type of powersteering fluid I should be using? My 1960 flx hi level has a hyd assist, Ross steering and I believe it's a bendix hyd assist cylinder. I have heard from some that I should be using motor oil instead of transmission fluid. Let me know.....

loader10, use this site for specs on power steering oil  www.babsteering.com/services/fluid_specs.htm and you will see that you can use different oils but on most ATF is always on top    hope this helps you

As a rule of thumb- Sheppard power steering should use 15W-40 motor oil.  All others ATF.  Good Luck, TomC

My old Crown (which I...SOLD!!) had Ross/TRW power assist power steering and my mechanic friend (nice guy to have around) called the factory or someone like that and was told that ATF type A was the recommended power steering oil.  The Crown had a Victors VT-42 pump. Hope this helps kinda. Good luck.  :) :) :)
