Title: scenic cruizer
Post by: ol713 on May 10, 2008, 02:10:32 PM
FWIW.   While driving around town this morning, I noticed a scenic cruiser in
a RV storage lot with a for sale sign on it.  I could not tell much
at 50mph, but if anyone needs more info, email me off the board.
I own a MCI and this post is to share info. Bus is located is So
            Cal.
                                         Thanks,  Merle.

Removed poll at Merle's request. Richard

I'd like some info just for giggles. We are looking at one here in Bakersfield as well. I think Don is heading over that way tomorrow to see his mom and he might be able to swing by to look at it if you have an address.

It is located in Lancaster.  It is just east from where Antelope Bus used to be
on ave L. If Don likes, he can call me at  661/942-5586.  I can also get an
address tomarrow and maybe take a photo while I am there.

ol713;   I'm sorry to go off topic in the middle here but I was just curious when Antelope Bus Lines went away. I used to ride those buses in the 60's. That is when the first signs of this bus related mental instability showed up. Obviously I haven't been back there in donkey's years, so please forgive my curiosity.   Cable

Photos would be nice.

If you can, the vin # would be good to know too.
A friend, Tom, is compiling a list & of the 1001 built, there are ~210 verified still around. I think that # is a little low as units continue to surface that weren't on the list.  ;D
BTW, of the 210, 27 are still seated coaches! :o Nice history to ride around in.  ;D

I bought my bus in 1991.  A few years later Antelope Bus sold out to
Coach USA.  A couple of years later Coach USA closed the Lancaster yard.
Today I don't see too much of Coach USA out on the road.  I guess the
Carter family decided to liquidate and was time to retire.

I see a fair number of Coach USA buses out on the road here in the Midwest.  Coach USA is also behind the Megabus scheduled bus service to/from Chicago and some other major metro areas.  My brother just rode Megabus to Chicago from Minneapolis for $10 yesterday.  He won't fly unless he has no choice and Megabus worked better for his schedule than Amtrak.

Thanks to Merle, and Dale for the heads-up on PD4501-666 (currently on ebay) & PD4501-558.  558 is located in Bakersfield, CA.  666 is the other in Lancaster, CA.  666 was sold on ebay for $15K "buy it now" back in 11/07. Man, where did the time go? I sold 666 for Bill Scavina back in 12/13/01 on ebay. He is a retired GH driver from San Diego. This one once belonged to the Charlie Daniels band.  Niether of these buses are new on my list. I finished combining Fred Rayman's Serial number list with mine. Some good info added, although, not that many new additions as for current 4501 survivors. I still need to take a re-count. I still beleieve it is around 210 plus or minus that survive in some condition other than shredded.

I just got off the phone with Charlie Daniels Jr who is my best friend. He verified what I thought when I first heard this. Charlie has never owned or used a SceniCruiser. His first bus was a Silver Eagle named Uneasy Rider. After that he had a couple of MCIs and now he has Prevosts.

Well, I just got the return phone call. Little Charlie called his dad to ask about the SceniCruiser. Turns out Little Charlie was mistaken. The Uneasy Rider was a SceniCruiser so this may very well be it. We forwarded the eBay link to Big Charlie for verfication. He says if it is Uneasy Rider, he has a lot of memories of being broke down in that thing! haha

When I bought my bus back in 2005 and went to Reno NV to pick it up we drove back to Connecticut via I-80 all the way back. But along the way I spotted 3 ScenicCruizers along I-80 in Wyoming. Two of them were across a large field heading east at a farm. You could clearly see both, the other I don't remember where. Sorry I did not document exactly where, we were short on time and not able to stop. But there was definitely 3 along I-80.

J.T. Laney,

My list shows you had PD4501-139 , then sold it to Mike Uhl (scruffydog999) of Calais, Maine. Mike also reportedly owns PD4501-237. Would it be possible to look at the one near you, and get the serial number for me? Photos would be even better. Thanks, and take care.

Tom, for your list - there's also a 4501 in Perris, California (Riverside County, east of Los Angeles).  I spotted it while I was doing some route planning, it's on the east side of the state highway from Perris to Temecula.  I'd guess it's about 4-5 miles south of Perris, looks to be in a trailer park.

Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned the one in Massachusetts, at Wilson Bus Lines (East Templeton).  I stopped in to visit last year (our PD-4107 was an Ex-Wilson) - and saw one in the back yard.  By the way, they also have an articulated Eagle, and the one and only PD-4901.
