I followed the posted link and it played a news story about a sink hole in Texas.  The message title said "old tires".  Is that what they are supposed to fill the hole with?

Sometimes the DOT numbers and build dates are only on one side of the tire-check the inside of the tires.  Good Luck, TomC

Only vaguely related.  I just went up to Santa Cruz and brought my other bus, the 67 Superior down south.  Before taking it, I had my mechanic there look it over and make sure it was ready for a 500 mile trip.  It really has not been on a trip in years.  He greased it, topped off the fluids, checked around and said everything looked okay, but that I should change the outer, left, rear tire since it had a lot the cracking, and he doubted its integrity.  I switched it out with the spare.  When I got it off, it turned out that there was a serious, deep split going completely across the tread.  That tire would have been guaranteed to come apart on the road.  Except for it being a bit jagged, it almost looks like it has been cut.
