I just got done installing the group 31's in the engine bay on my MCI 7, and I'm looking for a good place to put the vanner. I'm not sure how much water/stuff gets in there and if the Vanner's have a problem with it.
Now, the old 8D's are becoming the house batteries - do you just put some holes in the wall between the first bay and the battery bay and run wires through with grommets?
Thanks!
Glenn

In a nutshell, Yes!
I would keep the Vanner in a protected area.

Hi Glenn.......Enjoy your website & fun music.
About cable thru panel...run your cable through electrical conduit adapter instead of rubber grommet for avoiding heavy cable weigh cutting grommet via panel's edge.
Example of Plastic Conduit - Adapters
http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/14-47-plastic-conduit-adapters/terminal-adapter-102857.aspx
Get one that is large enough so cable goes through freely.
For each adapter...purchase a matching size "box" nut.
One for each cable and deburr all edges opening.
There is one that a terminal through panel version but only 3/8" stud.
http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=58464
If you go this route...be sure a heavy fuse of 150 or less ampere is before stud because it too small to handle your 8-D's current.
In otherword 1800 watts for 12v or 3600 watts for 24v.
FWIW

Glenn, I sent you an email with photos of my Vanner electrical installation. I don't know how to post photos here but I think others must be interested. Feel free to post them if you wish.
Thanks Sojourner,
Those suggestions are great. I think I can use the conduit adaptor since the vanner will be just on the other side of the wall from the batteries and my wiring will be very short.
Joe,
Thanks for the pictures. That's a really nice clean installation!
Glenn
Prevost put the Vanner in the engine compartment on a semi-protected wall.

You can also use whats called in thr trade a "chase nipple", similar in functionto the plastic adapter in Jerry's [post.
My 95 Prevost came with the Vanner on a stainless steel wall that faces the engine. One of the factory warrantee change orders moved the Vanner to the wall that faces the tag axle. I assume its because its much cooler there.
Sojourner can I get those same pics of your electrification? After I get my tag figured out I have to start on the plumbing and electrical. I have my 8 batteries, a vanner and a heart 1000 watt inverter. Just like to see how other people hook up their system.
thanks,
Greg
Bowmaga.....I think you mean Akroyaleagle.

Bowmaga, I sent you a copy.
Sojourner, I don't know how to send them to you. There's no email in your profile.
Joe,
He spelled out his e-mail in the text of his offer/request
silver1 at aol dot com....
Skip
Now I see it! I sent them to him. Thanks guys!
Akroyaleagle......Thank for trying but I misspelled my e-mail address...............it should be silverclip1 at aol dot com.
I am so sorry for the confusion.
Thank you for your patience.

PS...thank Skip!
FWIW, the new transits from Orion has the Vanner mounted in the engine room.
Ability to shed heat would be my first concern, exposure to the corrosion of battery gas is another, however, New Flyer was fond of mounting the pair of Vanners in the battery compartment directly above the batteries back in the early '90's models, but then those buses rusted out like mad....
I used a short metal conduit nipple all trussed up with electric tape to pass the big cables through the bulkhead until I'm sure that this isn't the temporary install. No sharp edges, no sharp angles, quite unsophisticated.
happy coaching!

Jim and others, in our H3 the vanner is located on the drivers side rear small bay just above the tag axle! Not sure if it was moved prior to my purchse or not!

From akroyaleagle:
Here's how I did it. The only thing you don't see is the pos and neg cables to the 6 Rolls Royce house batteries. Yes there is a master cut off in the pos and neg lines. Hope this helps. Joe

Thanks for your help Sojourner.
I don't know how to post photos. This installation has been there for 12 years. It stays nice and clean and dry. I have never had a problem with it.
All my house electrical is installed on the forward side of the rear wall of the middle bay.
This installation does not interfere with operation of the Quickee slide.
The batteries are in the rear bay with the house water and waste tanks. They are installed in a fiberglass coated box with vent holes cut into the floor and the vents have forward and rear facing wind wings under the floor to promote air circulation in case of gassing. I have never added water to these RR Surettes. They are 525AH each and guaranteed 8 years in RV installions.
Hope this is clear.
