Title: 04' F-250
Post by: Nick Badame Refrig/ACC on April 23, 2008, 06:10:47 PM
Hi Guy's,

A friend of mine is in a predicament and wants to know if I would take his 04' Ford F-250 4x4 [gas] off his hands. "At a steal of course"

I was wondering if any of you guy's have a F-250 and if they can be towed with the bus?  Are they reliable?

I'm not a ford guy but, the deal is tempting... It's lifted 2 inches, good tires, has a couple small dents, inside the bed is ugly..,

I'm glad it's not a Power Stroke, them engines are too loud for me!

Thanks
Nick-

Nick,
I have three of this type, 2x trucks, 1 Excursion. If it has the 4x4 switch on the dash it cannot be towed 4 down. This involves an electric shift motor on the transfer case. You can get by this by using the REMCO driveshaft disconnect. ($1000+).
I have one of these installed in the excursion, and I have had no problems, but would not do it again.
Great truck though, especially since it is the last year they used leaf springs under the front end instead of the new coil spring front ends.
They tow well, you don't even really feel them back there.

If, on the other hand, it has the regular four wheel shifter on the floor (i.e. manual shift TC) you CAN shift into neutral and tow four down with no problems.

Thanks Devin,

I will have to see if it has the push button.

It has 40,000 miles, what would it be worth on the market?

Nick,

Go to KBB.com and plug in your info for a private party sale.

Not sure if the 250 system is the same as the 150, but I towed my 150 all over the place.  unbolt the rear Driove flange and suspent the shaft, and pull a vacuume line for the transfer case.

what engine,  Run away from the V-10

Value, go to ebay it is a much better show of reaql values, KBB is always skewed as well as NADA.

I like my 04 250...it's a powerstroke though......the noise you get used to especially with 20+mpg on the highway

also whats thew rear end gearing......some of the low geared jobs get really poor MPG

I have a 2001 F-250 powerstroke.  I cannot tow it without the Remco kit.  I added the Banks kit and it will tow almost anything.  great fuel mileage, great power.  Noise, what noise?  :o)
