Title: Valve Cover Gasket on 8V71
Post by: Fredward on April 19, 2008, 10:39:35 AM
After we ran the rack on my 8V71, I've had trouble getting the drivers side valve cover to seal. Tightening it real tite seems to help but it still leaks oil in one corner. Should I just get a new rubber gasket for it? Under physical inspection; it looks OK.

Or is there a trick?

Are your valve covers cast aluminum or stamped steel.  The take a  gasket.  If it is a steel cover, it could be bent/warped.  Jack

In the 1930s Chevrolet came out with a valve in head engine and the valve covers leaked oil. Nothing much has changed. A tin cover on a cast head changes shape at different rates with temperature change.
