Hey all, I was coming over Vail pass(Colorado) with my Model 10 with a 6v92/ 5 speed manual. I was running in 3rd gear with my oil pressure at 55 and my eng. temp at 200F. I normally run at 190F unless I am pulling a hill. I overheated to 208 F and my high temp shut down activated. Once it cooled down I pulled the pass just fine. However now my eng temp. runs at 180 F on the flats no matter what speed. Did I mess something up???????????
You really didn't overheat. 208 is getting there but still below critical. What it does sound like is that maybe the heat jarred open the second thermostat, so now you're getting full flow throught the radiator. When back, I would pull and check the thermostats to make sure they are both opening nearly simultaneously-and this is something you can do with a big pot heating up the water with the thermostats inside and just watching. Best if you have a cooking thermometer to observe the temp when they open. Good Luck, TomC
On the bright side, it sounds like your overtemp shutdown system is working properly.
A caclulator found with Google shows water boils at 191.5 F so you have to have a good pressure cap on your system at that altitude. Just something else to have checked before going over the high passes.
