Title: Maybe the Youngest Driver
Post by: FloridaCliff on April 16, 2008, 06:26:11 PM
Was over at NCBob's today, admiring the floor that Ace and Bob had been putting down.

Since all the furniture was out of the front of the bus Bob and I pulled up a few portable seats.

We told my Son Patrick (7) that he could sit in the drivers seat, but that it was normally only reserved for drivers, when he reminded Bob and I that he was a driver, I had to explain.

When we come back from a trip I let Patrick steer the bus from my lap on the last 9/10 which is off the main road.  FYI-He has been driving 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers since he was 4.

This last time he said that he could drive the bus without my help.

So to his surprise, and an interesting look from my wife, while moving in first at idle (open road, no cars, no chance of another vehicle), I hoped out of the seat and told him it was his.

He smiled and jumped in the seat, (Dad right next to him)  he kept it straight for about 8/10 (grin from ear to ear) and I took back over, so I guess he's maybe the youngest Driver (not trying or wanting to start a competition  ;D )

And they thought I was irresponsible, letting my 17yr old play bus hockey, on an office chair, in a moving bus.......Wait until they get a hold of you. Oooo.... here it comes. :o

Hide the woman and children. Run for cover ......incoming, incoming.......

My seventeen yr. old drove for about 20 white knuckle miles. :P

Since I not only stay on the same road Cliff lives on but know both he and Patrick well, I can attest to the fact that not a cow, steer, horse or gopher turtle was in danger for the few minutes Patrick was at the wheel.

But I sure would have loved to have been a frog in Dads' pocket! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;
