Title: Newbies, Have you seen this bus for sale on ebay??
Post by: Gary LaBombard on April 09, 2008, 04:32:15 AM
Hello Everyone,
Correct me if I am wrong here but I just had to post the ebay address of this bus as being one of the cleanest buses I have ever seen on ebay except for maybe Tekebirds family bus.  Man, what I wouldn't give to also own this bus also but I probabably won't be able to go further than Palmetto Cove, in SC even when I get my Eagle done. Thanks GWB!!  I was just so taken back by the photos of this bus I wanted to share with you if you didn't already see it.  Good looking bus on the outside in particular for a newbie wanting a vintage, well taken care of vehicle per these photos.

Sorry to take your time on this.

Yes, Mr. LaBombard I agree, it is one of the finest examples of this type of bus conversion I've ever seen. Wish I could afford it myself!

Nice bus, except for the crack in the skin, and only one A/C (both of which are easily taken care of) would be a nice bus.  I wanted to use a GMC just like this one, but not enough head room for my 6'3" and I liked the 102" width of my transit better.  Good Luck, TomC

This is not a new listing. It was listed last month and the high bid wasn't anywhere near their asking price. Now they've re-listed it with a lower "buy it now" price. Still probably too high in today's market, time will tell ...

I'm not that familiar with GMCs, but could the crack be Bondo used to fill in a dent in the skin?  I don't think metal would crack like that.  It could also be a cap since I can't really tell where the crack is unless Imissed another picture of the crack.

A nice looking bus, but I have an '06 with an 8V71 TA and it is still challenged when we get to mountains.  Faster than any other coach or truck cllimbing, but I would think that my TA would even be outwieighed by a 40 foot 4905 mass!!  Especially with the V-730 on the end of it.  Now if this had an 8V92TA, then you are ready to roll, minus the crack of course.  Right now it seems that a lighter coach with better fuel mileage is a plus in this fuel market.  What are you guys getting with your '06es and '04s for mpg?  I am going to do some careful checking and report back on what I can do with my '04 when we get it back from new crank and clutch and injectors.  Bill Thomas

it is an odd crack but I have seen similar cracks in the steel panels of Buffalos.

Generally it is linked to a Corrosion issue.  Yep...Corrosion on a GM....Rare but it does happen.

Only correct way to fix that would have been to replace the wholepannel and I doubt these folks new where to source one or wanted to go to the expense.

Looks to me the crack pre existed the pretty paint.

If it does have corrosion issues it will shortly show itself coming up through the paint as soon as you take it out of the desert.

I regularly got 10 mpg in my 04 ( fresh factory 6-71 and 4 speed (from a suburban...no gear overlap on 3 &4)).

and every once in a blue moon I could get 12

If there were some rivets missing I would say that could trailer tongue weight could be a factor

The crack looks like thick bondo.  Look at the depression surrounding some of the rivets for the thickness.  Add vibration and the thick stuff will break.  Thin bondo will allow flexing in the panel--like metal.

About the "lightning" crack......whatever you called it...it stress cracked. Even if it has bondo over metal, it still cause by metal fatigue to show like it is.

Great motorhome but?? ? ??

I think it is not bondo too...... the rivet pulling in the metal is not uncommon in Buffalo, as I have seen that before on bare metal.....and I have seen similar cracking in late Model GM's, the one that used to park in front of me had a similar type crack below the driver window.

I also seem to recall seeing a buff at Luke's yard with similar non bondo cracking.

Between the NY lifestyle ( read: salt) and the hitch.....i;d say corrosion and stress induced metal failure

Where is that crack located? Above the A/C door or the electrical access door? Everything else looks so clean and spotless. If that was only cosmetic I think that would be a great bus, and I bet one could get it for less than the buy it now price. That would make it a great buy.
