Have any of you guys welded or heard of Platinox 4113. It is steel with stainless steel bonded on each side somehow. I have a fuel tank I wanted to use for my black water. I thought it was a magnetic stainless, now I'm not so sure about using it. I need to weld a new end on it, but I am worried about it rusting now. Thanks Tom
Hi Tom,
Yes, you should use 0.32 stainless wire to weld your ends on.
Good Luck

Nick, Why 0.32? I don't use sticks that big. Tom Y
I think Nick meant .032.. a mig wire, not a stick.

Yup! Thanks Dallas
About Platinox panel for tank....I believe primary purpose is for sound deadens material with stainless steel finish. If you still want metal tank, you need 316 SS which is more nickel, tougher (less prone to crack) and food grade to avoid any rust. Otherwise go for roll cast plastic tank.
For choosing SS of your choice:
For welding 304 SS, use 309 SS wire at .032 to .035 dia. Mig.

For welding 316 SS, use 316L SS wire at same above dia. Mig

Thanks Nick, Dallas, and Jerry. I would not build a tank from this material but I have it already. My concern is that the steel will rust out in between were it is exposed. The baffles are made from the same material. Also there some bent seams exposed on the inside. I wasn'tsure about Nicks .32, thought maybe they have BIGGER Migs in NJ than in PA. Thanks Tom
